A suspected “armed and dangerous” killer wanted in the shooting death of a witness to another murder is on the loose in north Georgia.
Demetrius Nicholas was last seen running into the woods in the Stone Mountain area outside Atlanta when he opened fire on a trespassing deputy, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said.
One deputy was grazed, either by bullets or flying glass from the car he was riding in, authorities said. He was treated at an area hospital and released.
Nicholas is wanted for June’s murder of a witness to another murder, according to reports.WSB-TV
Law enforcement officers from nearly a dozen local, state and federal agencies swarmed the area in search of Nicholas, but eventually cleared it before finding the suspected killer.
“At this time, he remains at large and charges are expected to be filed in addition to the original warrant for Murder,” the department said.
“The suspect is still considered armed and dangerous.”
Nicholas is wanted for the June 2022 murder of Timberre Mim, who was found dead in the driveway of the Stone Mountain apartment complex, according to WSBTV.
Neighbors said they heard eight or nine gunshots before her body was found shortly after 5:30 a.m.
Officials said Mim was a possible witness to a murder that happened a week earlier at a nearby gas station.
The slain man was also a resident of the apartment complex, police said.
