Police in Georgia say a bystander walked in and shot a would-be robber at a fast food restaurant.
A 57-year-old man tried to rob the manager of a Zaxby’s in Alpharetta, but a man who had just come to order food also had a gun, police told FOX 5 Atlanta.
“I’m glad that there are people out there to help people who might be victims,” customer Shameerah Bates told the TV station.
The attempted armed robbery happened at closing time on Sunday night.
Police said as the manager was leaving, a gunman approached him in the parking lot and attempted to rob him.
“An independent witness observed the robbery in progress, and intervened in the robbery, and shot the suspect after the suspect pointed his gun at the witness and the victim,” said Lt. Alpharetta Police Andrew Splawn to FOX 5.
When police arrived at the scene, they set up a perimeter to search for the suspect, who fled into the woods.
When officers located the suspect, they found him with two gunshot wounds to his leg.
The suspect was rushed to hospital and will face several charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, when he is released.
Police say the person seen with the gun will not be charged.

“Georgia law allows a person to use reasonable force to protect themselves or a third party when they believe the individual or themselves will suffer serious bodily injury or death,” Splawn said. “We believe this will be a defensive third party incident, so at this time we do not anticipate any charges for the witness.”
The manager was shocked and went to the hospital with some superficial injuries, and he is expected to be fine.
