American actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has openly discussed his divorce with his ex-partner Maria Shriver, saying that their split was “my failure” and that it was “very difficult”.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver married in 1986 but separated in 2011 following the actor’s public admission that he had fathered a son with their longtime maid.

The “Commando” actor said that he still loves his ex-wife but doesn’t miss being married to her, as he also thinks they deserve an “Oscar” for the way they handled their divorce.

Schwarzenegger’s ex-wife Shriver filed for divorce from the actor in July 2011, following his public admission of fathering a child, Joseph Baena, with their longtime housekeeper Mildred Baena.

“We laughed about it – it felt like a documentary,” he told the news outlet. “The difference is that he doesn’t think it’s cheating in the show because [seducing CIA assets] is part of his profession. His wife moved out because he was never home, and now he has this dilemma with the daughter because he has the same job, and it’s going to ruin his relationship too. But deep [my real-life marriage to Shriver], it is my f**k up. It was my failure. Plus, he’s still in love with his wife on the show.”

The iconic actor and former governor of California also opened up about marriage and his state of mind during his interview with THR.

Schwarzenegger was asked about his thoughts on marriage and whether he misses it. Her answer was unexpected, as she confidently stated that she did not miss marrying Shriver.

“The divorce was very, very difficult at first. Finally, you move on. I have a good girlfriend, [physical therapist] Heather Milligan, who is very successful. I am proud of him and love him,” he said.

The “Jingle All The Way” actor seemed to admit that he still loves his wife before praising his wife for their ability to navigate the challenges of their much-hyped divorce with grace and dignity.

“He and I are very good friends and very close, and we are very proud of the way we raised our children. Even though we have this drama, we do Easter together, Mother’s Day together, Christmas together, all birthdays together,” Schwarzenegger said.

He added, “If there is an Oscar for how to deal with divorce, Maria and I should get it for having the least impact on the children. The sweetness and goodness you see in them, that’s from my wife. Discipline and work ethic are from me.”

Schwarzenegger and Shriver have been married for over two decades and share four children; daughter Katherine, 33; Christina, 31; and son Patrick, 29; and Christopher, 25.

In his interview with THR, Schwarzenegger talks about getting old and using cosmetic surgery. The star shared that he never tried any “gimmicks” but did ask if anything had been invented that could stop or reverse aging.

“No. I have never had cosmetic surgery. I have never tried any gimmick,” shared the actor. “Many years ago, I [went to] UCLA, where they have a world-renowned expert on aging. I ask if anything has been invented or will be available that reverses aging. He said, ‘It’s nothing, end of story.'”

He added, “The only thing you can do is the old stuff. I can delete earlier because I smoke cigars, but then it balances out with me eating well and then exercising.
