The unregistered luxury watch that landed Arnold Schwarzenegger in detention for several hours at Munich Airport has fetched huge profits at a charity auction.
The watch reportedly brought in nearly $300,000 during an auction hosted by the former California governor on Thursday.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Luxury Watch Demands Sale at Climate-Focused Charity Auction
Following a routine check-up that saw Schwarzenegger spend about two and a half hours in custody before being released, he managed to organize his charity auction at the famous Stanglwirt Resort in Austria.
The event, which benefits Schwarzenegger’s Climate Initiative, features the actor taking to the stage and overseeing a bidding war, with an expensive watch — Audemars Piguet — being one of the items up for grabs.
The watch sold for 270,000 euros (about $293,000), according to a source with direct knowledge. Despite its initial valuation of around $100,000, the price of the watch soared, and the successful auction raised a total of 1.3 million euros, setting a record for the organization, TMZ shared together.
The outlet added that the “Terminator” star was in full “dad-joke” mode during the event, jokingly mentioning that customs officials were looking for the second watch but couldn’t find it. He even playfully suggested it might be because he hid it in a rather unconventional place.

It should be noted that a source close to the situation characterized Schwarzenegger’s arrest as an “incompetent change,” noting that he was not asked to fill out a declaration form before going to Germany.
Before his release, Schwarzenegger was reportedly ordered to pay an advance tax on the watch, totaling $10,613, and he complied.
However, he faced a series of challenges when trying to make payments, with the initial credit card machine failing. After that, attempts to withdraw from the ATM were prevented by the low limit, and the backup plan at the bank failed due to its closure.
Finally, he processed the payment using a different credit card machine at the airport. Meanwhile, the actor is not only dealing with the tax implications of the watch but also potentially facing criminal proceedings, as suggested by Munich Main Customs Office spokesman Thomas Meister.
“We have initiated criminal proceedings under the tax law. The watch should have been registered because it was an import,” said Meister, before another spokesperson repeated his comments, claiming:
“If the goods remain in the EU, you have to declare them through customs. This applies to everyone, whether their name is Schwarzenegger or Müller, Meier or Huber.”
The specific details of the criminal proceedings and whether charges will be brought against Arnold Schwarzenegger remain uncertain at this time. The video can be seen here.

In November 2023, Schwarzenegger was hit with a lawsuit stemming from a car accident he allegedly caused in January of the same year.
Official documents obtained by The Blast reveal that the car accident involving the 76-year-old man resulted in his vehicle overturning on top of another car, resulting in serious injuries to the driver of the other vehicle.
The disgruntled driver, Cheryl Augustine, claims in the filing that the car crash, which she maintains was entirely Schwarzenegger’s fault, left him “permanently disabled.” Therefore, he proceeded with a lawsuit against Schwarzenegger, demanding damages. Court documents read:
“At the said time and place, the defendant, and each of them, so negligently, arbitrarily, unlawfully, wrongfully and recklessly drove, operated, serviced, maintained, entrusted, repaired and managed the vehicle as to cause the vehicle said collided with the plaintiff’s vehicle and almost caused the injury and damage stated hereafter to the plaintiff.”
Augustine revealed that he was “required to, and did, employ physicians and surgeons to examine, treat, and care for him.” This reportedly led to “medical and incidental expenses, the amount of which is currently unknown” to him.
The legal filing further states that he “suffered property damage, lost the use of his car, and incurred other extraordinary expenses of an unknown amount.” Augustine is seeking compensation for “General damages… all medical and incidental expenses… all lost earnings,” and damage to the vehicle.
Augustine states in his lawsuit that the damages he is seeking are in excess of $25,000.
