Windows antivirus or firewall works to protect your device against malware and viruses; however, they can also sometimes interfere with other software and your email account. So whenever you experience any problem using AT&T in Outlook or it doesn’t work, you should temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall and then check if it helps.
If your att.net email is not working, whether in 2013, 2016 or 2019, you can try this method as it has proven to be helpful. So, to remove your AT&T email account from Outlook, here’s what to do:
- Go to the ‘Files’ tab in Outlook and click on ‘Account Settings’.
- Then click on the ‘Manage Profiles’ option and you will see the ‘Show Profiles’ option; click on that.

Set up your AT&T account again now and then check if it fixed the error.
IMAP and POP are the two types of accounts; the first is the last. IMAP offers certain features that do not exist in POP. It allows you to sync your emails across all your devices and that is the reason why most email services are switching to IMAP in 2020; POP is slowly becoming obsolete.
So if att.net email doesn’t work, you can try switching to POP from IMAP. You can make the changes in the account settings from your Outlook account and after switching to an IMAP account from POP, the problem may go away.
The reason for attnet email not working may be your DNS and switching to Google DNS may fix the problem. Here are the steps you need to follow to do the same:
- On the taskbar, click the network icon and select your network.
- Then select ‘Change adapter options’
- You will see the list of all available network connections on your PC and then right click on your network and choose ‘Properties’.
- Now, select ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP4)’ and then click on ‘Properties’ option.
- Then select ‘Use the following DNS server addresses’ and enter 8.8.8.8 as the preferred DNS server and 8.8.4.4 as the alternate DNS server; press ‘Save’.
If nothing helps and you’re still wondering why my AT&T email isn’t working, you can try using the webmail version as a temporary solution. You won’t need to set up the account and you can simply log in to AT&T mail with username and password to check your emails. Make sure att.net email is not down and the servers are working fine.
That’s all you can try to fix your AT&T account with Outlook.
