Attack ad uses AI-generated voices of Nikki Haley and Tim Scott to claim they’re ‘too woke’

AI generated radio ads recreate the voice from Republican presidential candidates Nikki Haley and Tim Scott — to slam them as too liberal and “woke” to win the GOP nomination.

The narrator of the 60-second spot — funded by the Courageous Conservatives Super PAC and running in the red-leaning markets of Iowa and South Carolina — opens with, “It’s time to play “Who’s smarter, with Nikki Haley and Tim Scott.”

The narrator asks the “candidates” to answer a series of questions to determine “who is more aware” and also asks listeners to vote in the X poll, formerly known as Twitter.

“Who supports the local police who fund it?” the narrator says.

Scott’s voice generated by “Celebrity Voices AI” replied, “It’s me, Tim Scott.

“My Act of Justice has affected the police,” says Scott’s character.

The narrator asks, “Who tore down the Confederate Memorial” in Columbia, SC, the state capital.

“I! Nikki Haley,” answered the AI voice of the former South Carolina governor.

Courageous Conservatives founder Chris Ekstrom told The Post, “We want to be creative.

“We wanted to be funny and use AI voices. Haley and Scott are both too self-aware to be the Republican nominee,” Ekstrom said.

Scott appeared on ABC’s “This Week” program on June 20 and was asked about a story in The Root, a left-leaning black publication.

The story has described the Fairness Act proposed by South Carolina senators as a form of police funding because it bars police departments from receiving funding if they fail to comply with reforms involving arrests, no-knock warrants and training.

“God bless ‘The Root,'” Scott told ABC’s “This Week” program at the time. “It’s nice to have them by my side every blue moon. I’m not sure I would follow their conclusions. But, yes, it is important for us to use the resources that we provide for law enforcement, and the means to get them, to force them, in the direction that we think is in the best interest of the country, the community that, they, they serve and continue to explained the officer himself.

Jon Karl, the show’s host, followed up by asking, “And I think their point is that if, if – the police department doesn’t do what you’re asking, they’re going to lose access to federal funds. So, is there an element of funding delay here?”

Scott replied, “Yes. “A very, very important aspect of our bill.”

As for Haley, after the 2015 mass shooting that killed nine black congregants at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, she approved as then-governor legislation to remove the confederate flag from the state capitol grounds, which many saw as a symbol of racism. . slavery and white supremacy.

In the new ad, the narrator also asks who is “keeping strong conservatives” off the federal bench. Scott has blocked Thomas Farr, an appointee of former President Donald Trump for allegedly disenfranchising black voters.

“It’s me, Tim Scott!” responding to AI-generated votes from GOP contenders.

The narrator also asks who was caught up in the “bubba Wallace scam” – a reference to the incident involving the black NASCAR driver.

“Nikki Haley, of course,” her AI-Haley voice said.

An FBI investigation concluded the noose had been in the garage stall before Wallace’s team entered and that the noose had not intentionally targeted Wallace and was therefore not a racial act.

Haley, the first US ambassador to the UN under Trump, tweet at the time, “We should all stand with @BubbaWallace today against the coward who secretly put rope in his garage stall. Watch your back coward. Bubba has a bigger army than you. #HateWontWin #WeStandWithBubba.”

Ekstrom said his group has spent $35,000 on ads in Iowa and South Carolina so far and expects to market the ad in Nevada, an early voting state for the GOP nomination. He also expects to extend the ad in South Carolina, another early voting state in February 2024, where locals Haley and Scott will need to perform well to advance to the GOP primary.

His Bold Conservative PAC was an early backer of Texas Senator Ted Cruz for president in 2016.

The group isn’t endorsing a specific candidate at this point, but it did show its sympathy by including a photo of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on its X account.

The group’s ad isn’t the first AI ad to hit the 2024 presidential race.

In July, the pro-Ron DeSantis super PAC used an AI version of Trump’s voice in a new TV ad slamming the former president.

The ad, paid for by Never Back Down, accused Trump of attacking Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and disrespecting the state’s first caucus.

The Haley and Scott campaigns had no immediate comment on the ad involving them.
