Austin Butler’s portrayal in Elvis (2022) received praise from critics and audiences, as well as nominations and wins in the “best actor” category for several important prizes. The 31-year-old actor also talked about the nutritional challenges he had to overcome to play the role of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock & Roll.
Butler was heard talking about eating “microwave ice cream” after being inspired by Ryan Gosling in a recording of the Variety Awards Circuit podcast that the magazine posted on its website on February 16. He also ate “two dozen donuts” every day to reach the weight needed to portray the older Presley.

“When Ryan Gosling was filming ‘The Lovely Bones,’ I heard he microwaved Häagen-Dazs and drank it. So I started doing that. I’m going to go out and get two dozen donuts and eat them all.”
The Dead Don’t Die star also said that eating that many calories made her feel bad about herself.
“I started gaining weight quickly. It’s entertaining for a week, and then you feel bad about yourself. But, we intend to shoot in chronological order at first. With COVID, it quickly became obsolete. That is impossible.”
However, with the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, Elvis’ filming schedule was disrupted, forcing him to abandon his dangerous weight gain methods. Elvis was a financial and critical success for the uninitiated, with Austin Butler receiving praise for his portrayal of the famous singer.

Butler said on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast that she was crazy and thought she had the job before the audition. He sees the job as his, which is why he puts so much work into preparing for it. Unfortunately, the film was repeatedly shelved, and production in Australia was eventually halted during COVID-19 in 2020. According to Austin Butler:
“When we stopped, we thought we would close for two weeks and then come back, but that quickly turned into a month, and then six months. Then there was one time when Baz took me out to dinner and said, ‘I believe you should go back to the US, and the movie might not happen.'”
He also said that he would not return and would instead rent a residence in Australia until work began. Austin Butler did not return to the United States because he did not want to lose the momentum he gained while training for Elvis. The actor said that he was willing to wait for a year. Thankfully, work began in September 2020, and the film was a success.
For the uninitiated, the actor won a Golden Globe in the “Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama” category in January for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in his biopic. Butler’s portrayal of Elvis earned him an Academy Award nomination for the show’s 95th edition.
