Austin Butler may not have spent the longest time with the late Lisa Marie Presley, but they had a deep connection — unlike any other.
The two met while filming “Elvis,” years before LMP surprisingly passed away at age 54 on Thursday, Jan. 12, after suffering a heart attack at his California home.
Butler’s relationship with the deceased turns out to be very meaningful to him as he recently honored his memory by remembering him for trusting him and being open.

Playing LMP’s father, Elvis Presley, in the highly successful biopic “Elvis,” seems to have influenced the two’s relationship as they bonded quickly despite their age difference.
The 31-year-old spoke to PEOPLE at the 95th annual Oscar nominees luncheon, where he recalled the precious moments they spent together and how they “bonded very, very quickly.”
He promised to forever cherish the special times he was able to share with her, saying, “all those special moments just to share life with her, I will cherish her forever,” while remembering her as “an honest person.” Paying tribute to the late musician, Butler revealed, “There was no filter about his feelings. And he really opened up to me very quickly.”
During the January 30 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Butler admitted that before meeting Lisa Marie, he had never met someone with whom he felt “a deep connection right away.” He elaborated, “He’s someone who has nothing to prove and won’t open up to anyone, and he opened up to me. We became so close so quickly, and it was devastating.”
The “Life Unexpected” actor who was promoting “Elvis” at the time saw the moment as “bittersweet” given the Oscar nomination for Best Actor and had to mourn LMP at the same time.
“A lot of things happened,” he said. “But I’m just disappointed with his family. And for him not to be here to celebrate with us, you know. Butler was happy, however, that she was able to be with him at the Golden Globes, where he won best actor in a drama for his “Elvis” performance. He vowed never to forget the moment with her for the rest of his life.

Shortly before chatting with Fallon and after her Oscar nomination, she spoke candidly about Lisa Marie’s unfortunate passing while touching on her Oscar nomination.
As reported, getting an Academy Award nomination for the first time was definitely a dream come true for Butler, but she didn’t hesitate to dedicate the feat to the late celebrity. “It’s kind of bittersweet right now,” he said of how he felt about being nominated without LMP around. “Because I think how much I wish he was here right now to celebrate with me.”
The winner of the Golden Globe Award later admitted that he has the same feelings for Elvis, hoping that both the legend and his daughter will be able to witness the moments of celebration. His voice sounded quite emotional as he dedicated his name to LMP, saying,
“It’s a little strange to celebrate at a time of such deep sadness. But I think of it as a way of honoring him. This is for him.”
