Australian woman arrested in connection to alleged killer mushroom poisoning of three ex-in-laws

The Australian woman accused of serving her former in-laws lunch laced with killer mushrooms, poisoning three people, was arrested Thursday morning in connection with their deaths.

Erin Patterson, 49, was arrested at her Leongatha home more than three months after her ex-husband’s family members were rushed to hospital for illnesses they all contracted after he took them to lunch, according to Victoria police and reports.

Her former mother and father-in-law, Gail and Don Patterson, both 70, along with Gail’s sister Heather Wilkinson, 66, all died in hospital days after they ate the Beef Wellington pie she had cooked.

Wilkinson’s husband Ian, 69, was also rushed to hospital in a critical condition and remained in hospital for months until he was discharged on September 23.

Patterson’s ex-husband who was supposed to join her family for lunch but skipped it at the last minute accused her of poisoning his relatives.

Victoria Police have not announced any charges against Patterson or specific allegations against him — only saying he was arrested as part of a homicide investigation.

He is currently being interviewed by police as investigators search his home along with a technological sniffer dog – which is trained to sniff out hard drives and other materials, police said.

Authorities believe Patterson may have poisoned the food with the highly toxic death cap mushroom, although he has denied any wrongdoing.

“I love them and I’m sad that they’re gone,” he told reporters in August about his former in-laws. “They are some of the best people I’ve ever met.”

Patterson was the only person who left his lunch and didn’t get sick, along with his kids — who got a different meal.
