Ax-wielding terror suspect rams vehicle into IDF soldiers and attacks

An ax-wielding terrorist rammed a vehicle into a group of Israeli soldiers outside a Navy base in the northern Israeli city of Haifa and attacked them early Monday morning, seriously injuring one soldier, officials said.

Israel Defense Forces officials said the terrorist plowed his vehicle into a group of soldiers, before exiting the vehicle and attacking them with an axe.

The suspect was shot dead at the scene by one of the soldiers.

Another man suspected of fleeing the scene was also arrested, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Photos posted to social media after that shows a soldier with a weapon standing near a man lying in the street with an ax by his side.

Another footage shows a white sedan with its front broken off next to the outer wall of a military facility.

Medics who responded to the scene found one of the soldiers, a 20-year-old man, conscious but with severe wounds to his lower body, according to the Times of Israel.

The soldier was then taken to a nearby hospital.

In a statement, the deputy director of the hospital, Dr. Avi Weissman said, “A moment ago, there was a stampede at the entrance of the Rambam Health Care Campus, it was extraordinary.

“In a few minutes, a young man was admitted, seriously injured and [is] being treated in the shock room (collaborative work area for emergency and intensive care personnel).

“He appeared to be injured in all limbs,” Weissman said. “He is now unconscious and intubated and will undergo a series of surgeries.”

The doctor stated that the hospital is still open to walk-in patients.

Israeli police are investigating the incident.
