Bam Margera Claims He’s Now Sober And Is Requesting Joint Custody Of His Son Phoenix

Bam Margera claims that she is doing better with her sobriety and, as a result, has filed papers for joint custody of her son, Phoenix, who she says she is barred from visiting.

The “Jackass” star previously accused his estranged wife, Nicole Boyd, of keeping him from contacting Phoenix. The TV personality has had a very public battle with substance abuse and has been to several treatment centers.

Margera noted that his sobriety journey has been smooth sailing, especially with help from former NBA star Lamar Odom.

After a recent court hearing in Los Angeles, Margera spoke with him TMZ about being away from his son. The “Jackass” star is seeking joint custody of Phoenix from his estranged wife, Nicole Boyd. She said that Boyd should agree to split custody of their son and allow overnight visits on alternate weekends.

Margera, who has publicly struggled with substance abuse, claims in court documents obtained by the news outlet that she is sober, in therapy, and receiving other treatment, and for this reason, should be allowed to see her son.

In the filing, the former “Jackass” star also claims that Boyd has a history of substance abuse which is expected to make him more understanding of his struggles.

She Claims Boyd Blocked Her Visits

Speak to TMZ, Margera explained that Boyd wanted to completely remove him from Phoenix’s life by painting him as a “gunman”. She said, “It’s so hard being in California knowing my son is in Burbank and you know, I can hug him in 10 minutes if I want to but he haunts my calls.”

Margera explained that it had been “months” since she had any access to her son, noting that Boyd tried to make her look bad even though she was now taking care of an eight-year-old. She said, “I look after an eight-year-old child named Isabel. I live with him, I can take him to the movies and take him to the park, but when it comes to Phoenix..”

The former stuntman added, “I’ve never carried a knife or shot a gun…”

Margera said Boyd wants people to see him as a “loose cannon and he knows how to push [his] button with ghosting [him].” Margera’s lawyer was also present and said their team was doing everything possible to get him full access to the little boy.

In his conversation with TMZ, Margera also shared an update on her recovery from substance addiction. This comes about a month after he threatened fans that he would smoke himself to death if he wasn’t allowed to see Phoenix. The star shared that she is now “doing good in peace” and is getting help from Lamar Odom.

Odom is a former NBA star who also publicly struggled with substance addiction and offered Margera help and a place at his own Odom Health Treatment Center.

He said, “I tried a different approach. I’m with a girl now, she’s a model and fitness trainer, she keeps me straight. We go back and forth to Oceanside.”

Margera added, “I am very aware that alcohol is not good. I need a conscious coach to be around me. I don’t need to lock myself in a room.”

TMZ also spoke with Boyd, where he explained his stance on the matter. He denied the TV personality’s claims and said his behavior was “very scary.” Boyd says he has to put their son first and protect him.

When asked about Margera’s attempts to get sober, he said, “I haven’t seen anything really consistent, and he has to really want it, and I haven’t seen it yet. And yeah, I’m afraid I’m going to get that phone call …”

She added of Margera’s behavior, saying, “It’s scary, her behavior is so scary, and automatically I would choose our child. And he had put us in some very dangerous situations where I had to get us out. Yeah, so it’s scary.”

As reported by Explosion in June, Boyd alleged in court documents that Margera “held a knife to his own throat and yelled threats at [her].” He also claimed that he tried to support Margera while he was in rehab despite the alleged knife incident.
