Career

When he was twelve, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. During his graduation, he was part of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and worked as the city president and state executive member of the organization. He was also city secretary, city president, Kerala national secretary and in-charge of Tamil Nadu for the organization. In 1994, he started working as a Director of The Karimnagar Co-operative Urban Bank and worked there until 2003.

Politics

In 1996, during the elections, he helped campaign for BJP leader LK Advani’s letter Rath Yatra for 35 days. From 2005 to 2019, he was the Municipal Corporator for Karimnagar. In 2014, he contested the State Assembly elections as a BJP candidate but could not win the seat. In 2018, he contested the State Assembly elections as a BJP candidate but could not win the seat. On 23 May 2019, he was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha from the Karimnagar constituency. On 11 March 2020, he was elected as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Telangana.

Controversy

Accused of leaking SSC papers

On April 6, 2023, he was sent to judicial custody until April 19 in the SSC paper leak case. After he was detained by the police, there were protests demanding his release. Even some among his party workers said the police did not give a clear reason for arresting him. His party workers gathered around the police station and raised slogans against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Some of them also claimed that it was a conspiracy of the Telangana government to distract people from the failure of the BRS party regarding school and job exams. In a police statement, it was said that the main cause of the case was a person named Shiv Ganesh who shared the paper on WhatsApp. Later, journalist Boora Prashant who received the paper on WhatsApp shared the news with various media about the paper leak. According to the BJP, Chief Minister KCR and the BRS party tried to link the journalist with the BJP, but Sanjay was granted bail on the night of April 6, 2023 by the Hanamkonda court in Warangal district.

Judicial remand against Sanjay

In January 2022, he and over 150 BJP members were remanded for 14 days for allegedly violating Covid-19 norms and assaulting civil servants during a ‘Jagarana’ (night vigil) protest for teachers and other government employees. The protest is against the government’s regulation GO3317 which states the zone system in the allocation of jobs and transfers. Their arrest was criticized by leaders including state president JP Nadda and Union minister G Kishan Reddy. Sanjay was arraigned in court on charges of violating the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, Indian Penal Code Section 188 (disobeying a duly promulgated order by a public servant) and Section 333 of the IPC (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to prevent a public servant from discharging his duties. ).

  • In 2020, he criticized the film RRR and even threatened SS Rajamouli saying his party workers would burn theaters that would air the film. She is opposite the character of Komaram Bheem who is shown wearing Muslim clothes in the film. Later, Rajamouli said that the picture is based on the characters of Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju but not their biopic. The police also stationed several policemen near his house in Karimnagar to ensure that he did not go on the yatra.
