Banished from Congress, George Santos to be featured in HBO flick by ‘Veep’ alum

Former Long Island representative George Santos is about to become a movie icon — and this isn’t another fake story.

HBO Films has optioned the rights to a book published last week detailing the impeached representative’s political career.

Santos (R-NY) was fired from Congress on Friday after a scathing ethics report alleged that he “blatantly stole” campaign funds and used political dollars for OnlyFans and Botox.

The upcoming silver screen film has been billed as a “forensic and darkly comic look” at the former MP-turned-MP.

To tell the strange story of the young Santos, HBO will tap Frank Rich to executive produce “The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos,” which is released on November 28.

Mike Makowsky, of HBO’s “Bad Education,” will write the Santos movie, with the book’s author Newsday columnist Mark Chiusano consulting, Deadline reported.

“Can’t think of a better team for this. The legend @frankrichny, who has worked on some of my favorite shows, and @mike_makowsky, whose BAD EDUCATION is the perfect Long Island movie,” Chiusano posted on X.

“The story of a seemingly small local race that ends the battle for Long Island’s soul, and unexpectedly paves the way for the world’s most famous (and now infamous) congressman,” the film’s logline says, Variety reported.

“The Gatsby-esque journey of a man from nowhere who exploits the system, wages war on the truth and cheats one of the wealthiest counties in the country to achieve his American Dream.”

A specific release date and cast have yet to be announced.

Santos gave Republicans one of their few pickups in the 2022 cycle, turning New York’s 3rd Congressional District red.

Shortly after his election victory, it was revealed that he fabricated large parts of his personal biography such as claiming he attended Baruch College and had a career on Wall Street.

He now faces a 23-count indictment for alleged embezzlement and misleading donors.

Santos was expelled from Congress on Friday in a vote of 311 to 114 with 105 Republicans backing the effort to oust him, making him only the sixth member of the House of Representatives to be ousted in US history.

He has publicly announced that he will not seek re-election.

However, Santos refused to go quietly. Now that he’s out of the backroom, the former Empire State representative is responding.

Santos has vowed to present multiple complaints against his former peers to the House Ethics Committee on Monday.
