Career

He joined The Wall Street Journal in 2013 and worked as an assistant book review editor until April 2017.
In 2017, the New York Times recruited Bari as an op-ed staff editor and culture and politics columnist. He announced his retirement from The New York Times on July 14, 2020, and released a resignation letter on his website. The reason for leaving was bullying by colleagues and an illiberal news environment. Apart from the news, in September 2019, he launched his first book, How to Fight Anti-Semitism. His second novel, The New Seven Dirty Words, will be released in 2020. He is also a co-founder of the organization Columbians for Academic Freedom.
