Brian Wilson, a music legend and co-founder of The Beach Boys, has lost his “anchor” after nearly three decades together.
The musician’s grief was evident throughout a touching post on Tuesday, in which he announced the death of his longtime wife, Melinda Kay Ledbetter Wilson. She died at the age of 77, leaving behind a heartbroken husband and five children.

Brian broke the sad news on Instagram, sharing two photos of his late wife. The first captures the parents of the Wilson family in their younger glory, while the second slide shows the lovebirds posing together.
The famous keyboardist captioned this heartwarming photo with two statements — the first was an announcement of Melinda’s death, while the second was a joint message from the couple’s children. Brian’s sad statement read:
“My heart is broken. Melinda, my beloved wife of 28 years, passed away this morning. My five children and I are in tears. We are lost. Melinda is more than my wife. She is my savior.”
“He gave me the emotional security I needed to have a career. He encouraged me to make the music closest to my heart,” the heartbroken husband continued before signing off with a plea to fans, writing:
“He is my anchor. He is everything to us. Please pray for him. Love and mercy, Brian.”
In her children’s statement, they said their mother died peacefully at home before sharing more details about her personality. “She is a force of nature and one of the strongest women you can come across,” their message declared, adding:
“She is not only a model, our father’s savior, and a mother, she is a woman empowered by her passion with a mission to improve everyone she touches. We will miss him but appreciate all he has taught us.”
They explained that Melinda taught them the importance of caring for others unconditionally and finding beauty in the darkest places. He also instilled in them the desire to live as “their true selves with honesty and pride.”

“We love you mom. Give Grandma Rose and Pa our love,” the children concluded their statement. The split received thousands of condolences from fans and celebrities, with rock star Nancy Wilson commenting: “Lots of love and prayers. Take care of each other.”
Fellow musician Graham Nash echoed similar sentiments, writing: “I am so sorry for your loss, Brian, and for the terrible pain you are all feeling. My heart, love, and prayers are with you and your family.”
Another touching comment came from guitarist Brian Ray, who shared his condolences saying: “I’m so sorry to hear this news, Brian. He is a very special person, and you are lucky to have each other.”
