A Mexican beauty queen died when the car she was driving crashed into a pole and overturned on Friday.
Tania Alessi Marín Cruz, 27, hit a pole on the side of the Mexico-Pachuca highway near Matilda around 6 a.m., causing her car to overturn, according to World Today News.
Cruz, a law school graduate, has represented her state of Hidalgo in the Mexicana Universal 2023 pageant.
The attorney general’s office released a statement confirming the death of Cruz, a public ministry agent who worked for his litigation delegation.
“We sympathize with the family, and our colleague Tania Alessi Marín Cruz, we hope that in these difficult moments, they find the peace and comfort they need to overcome their loss. Rest in peace,” Hidalgo officials wrote.
In addition to her modeling and legal work, Cruz participates in local social work and advocates for breast cancer awareness campaigns.
“I am passionate about my work because I can listen to people and be a tool and agent of change,” one of her last Instagram posts read.

“My biggest inspiration is my aunt, who is a warrior who beat breast cancer, and I experienced this process with her up close.”
After Cruz’s death, his account was flooded with memorials.
“Alessi… like several others, you have left your mark! The light and love you gave us will live forever in our hearts. Fly high,” wrote Mexicana Universal Hidalgo on its Facebook page.
