Bella Hadid Quietly Takes Down Her Balenciaga Campaign Posts Following ‘BDSM’ Scandal

Top model Bella Hadid is trying to distance herself from the ongoing controversy surrounding Balenciaga and the clothing brand’s latest post. The luxury clothing and footwear company recently made headlines when it, along with other brands, cut ties with Kanye West following his anti-semitic comments.

Balenciaga released its Spring/Summer 2023 collection, with celebrities such as Hadid and Nicole Kidman modeling its clothes. The brand also features children in its campaign, holding dolls stuffed in fetish gear. The post was followed by a photo of a bag containing pages of Supreme Court cases focusing on federal child pornography laws.

The backlash after the post caused Balenciaga to take it down and other old images on its social media pages. The parties involved in the shoot have since distanced themselves from the incident, and Hadid just became the latest.

Hadid recently took down a photo of herself modeling for Balenciaga amid ongoing backlash. The model lands the brand’s latest campaign for its Spring/Summer 2023 collection, which debuted during Paris Fashion Week. The pictures show two small children holding a bear wearing what appears to be a talisman.

Some fans slammed Hadid for her association with the brand and left some comments that had #cancelbalenciaga. Per Page Six, one angry follower wrote, “Can’t believe this celebrity doesn’t care about children at all! You work with a label that has sexually exploited children in their ad campaigns! But because people spoke up, they have apologized [sic] … they wouldn’t have otherwise, and you puppets are ok with all that?!”

The photo features a black and white striped Balenciaga handbag from the brand’s collection. However, one eagle-eyed Twitter user zoomed in and pointed out a Supreme Court document hidden in the corner of the picture.

Other photos in the clothing campaign feature famous celebrities such as Hadid and Kidman. Both modeled adult clothing from the collection. The post unsurprisingly generated a lot of backlash from the public, and there were calls to cancel the brand.

Balenciaga wrote, “We apologize for displaying disturbing documents in our campaign. We take this matter seriously and are taking legal action against those responsible for creating the set and including items that were not approved for our Spring 23 campaign photo shoot.”

The photographer behind the controversial Balenciaga photo, Gabriele Galimberti, has also come under fire for his input into the shoot. In a Twitter post, he revealed that an onslaught of hate mail prompted the statement. Galimberti explained that he had no authority to choose the products or models in the shoot.

“As a photographer, I am only asked to light the given scene and take pictures according to my special style. As always, the direction of the campaign and the shoot is not in the hands of the photographer,” continued the photographer.

Galimberti went on to tell the public not to be distracted by the real problem of pedophilia and the people behind it. He concluded by saying he had no hand in the photo taken of the Supreme Court document, which was posted alongside his photo.
