Beloved nurse of 12 years dies suddenly on Christmas Eve: ‘Epitome of kindness’

A nurse who spent 12 years at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital died suddenly on Christmas Eve after suffering “some sort of seizure”.

Ashley Denness, 34, was in the Whitsunday Islands and spent the morning catching crabs before she collapsed and died.

He was rushed to hospital, having another seizure on the way, while emergency services tried to revive him for 45 minutes but were unable to do so.

Friends and family immediately set up a GoFundMe to house Ashley from where she was vacationing with her partner’s family.

“Ash was a loving daughter, loving sister and sister-in-law, adoring life partner, fun aunt, reliable friend, an amazing nurse and co-worker and loving mother to her fur babies. He embodies everything you need and want in a person,” the GoFundMe said.

“He made everything feel so easy and like home. Ash is the sparkle in every room. He just had that presence about him. The aura he gave off. You know he is the epitome of goodness.”

Ashley is described as someone who can make a huge difference in people’s lives – even if they’ve only known her for five minutes.
