Benedict Cumberbatch and his family were left fearing for their lives after a former chef violently broke into their home.
The Hollywood sensation became a key member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following his phenomenal portrayal of the sorcerer Doctor Strange. However, playing such a powerful on-screen character does not make the performer immune to threats.
An unhinged man invaded the award-winning actor’s North London home, causing some damage in what could have been a nasty encounter for the Hammersmith-born and his loved ones.

The England heartthrob may be looking for better security following his recent home invasion. According to reports, a man named Jack Bissell invited himself to the premises of the actor “The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug” by kicking the iron gate of the front garden.
The house, which is said to be worth £3.5 million, received the worst of the perpetrators’ aggressive attacks. Bissell, a former chef de partie at Mayfair’s five-star Beaumont Hotel, confidently unleashes his destructive rampage with a fish knife.
According to the DailyMail, the 35-year-old didn’t seem to be in the right frame of mind when he vented his anger in Cumberbatch’s garden. He was seen kicking, stomping, uprooting one of the family’s plants, and throwing it against the garden wall.
While Bissell’s reign of terror unfolded, the “Doctor Strange” star, his wife, Sophie Hunter, and their three children were in the house. Although the walls protected them from their intruders, the family could hear the armed chef destroying their garden shouting insults.
The verbal attack included several threatening threats, with the attacker allegedly shouting, “I know you’ve moved here. I hope it burns.” Not content with ruining the family garden, Bissell spits on the intercom before ripping it out with his fish knife.
Following his violence, the former luxury hotel employee fled the scene but was later arrested by the authorities. Police traced the chef using his DNA on the intercom.
The offender pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Wood Green Crown Court, receiving a £250 fine and a three-year restraining order. The ban will prevent Bissell from approaching the Cumberbatchs and their residential area.
Unfortunately, the cause of the intruder’s attack remains a mystery, as the 35-year-old man did not reveal why he traumatized the celebrity’s family when questioned in court. However, Bissell’s actions did not appear to be an unplanned wave of aggression.

According to the prosecutor, on the day of his invasion, the former chef stopped at a nearby shop to buy two packets of pitta bread. Before leaving, the perpetrator told the seller that he was going to break into the Hollywood sensation’s home and set it on fire.
Following Bissell’s attack, sources claimed the Cumberbatchs were horrified by the experience. “Naturally, all the families were afraid and thought this man would come in and hurt them,” the informant revealed.
“Fortunately, it never went that far. Benedict and Sophie have had many sleepless nights since then, worried they might be targeted again,” the insider explained. “The fact that it was a targeted invasion makes it even more frightening.”
Inside The Oscar Winner’s Blooming Relationship With His Wife, Sophie Hunter
Even as the “Sherlock” actor and his family deal with the horrific situation, there’s no doubt their love will get them through the tough times.
Recalling the beautiful relationship between the actor and his wife, the couple met while working together on a film like most Hollywood couples.
Hunter, an acclaimed playwright and director, starred alongside the Hammersmith native in the 2009 film, “Burlesque Fairytales.” This meeting may have ignited the flames of their romance, but it remains unknown as the couple has kept a low profile.
The two avoided dating speculation until 2014 when they first appeared at the French Open in June. Five months later, the couple unexpectedly announced their engagement using an old newspaper write-up in “The Times” Births, Deaths, and Marriages column.

As for why the couple chose this mode of announcement, Cumberbatch admitted that he wanted the traditional route. The TV personality stated that she’s not a fan of social media and doesn’t want people to see the couple as “s—ty, gross footage staring lovingly into each other’s eyes with a ring on someone’s finger.”
Finally, the couple tied the knot in a surprise Valentine’s Day wedding in 2015, shortly after revealing they were expecting their first child. The couple said their vows in an intimate ceremony at St. Peter and St. Paul in Mottistone, England.
