Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) wrote an essay in the New York Times this week titled “Justice for Palestine and Security for Israel.”
His ideas are as old and tired as Senator Sanders himself and are likely to be as successful as his past bids for the presidency.
Senator Sanders admitted, “I don’t have all the answers.” Indeed he is not there. Only the Palestinian State’s terrorist outlines are lubricated by more American funding, partly taken from money historically given to Israel.
Senator Sanders began by obfuscating salient facts.
He acknowledges the killing of 1,200 innocent Israelis by Hamas, but ignores any mention of the rape, torture and mutilation suffered by them and other poor Israelis – facts that are inconvenient, no doubt, in guaranteeing the Palestinian ability to live in peace.
He also fails to mention that Hamas’ brutality against Israeli civilians has now made it, by and large, the most popular political organization among Palestinians.
He also accepted the death toll attributed to the Hamas-controlled “Gaza Ministry of Health”, and falsely attributed the deaths to “indiscriminate bombing” by the Israel Defense Forces.

I can’t help but recall the unpleasant conversation I had with Sen. Sanders in 2016 on the topic.
After he complained loudly about Israeli soldiers attacking non-military sites (after warning civilians to leave), I asked him if he could identify a less lethal way for Israel to defend itself against Hamas terrorists hiding behind civilians .
He couldn’t then, and he can’t now.

But what is most troubling about his vision is Senator Sanders’ strategy to overfund the Palestinians and underfund Israel.
In other words, take American tax dollars and give more to corrupt organizations that oppress their own people, pay incentives for terrorists to kill Jews and educate youth to hate Israel.
And then less giving to one of America’s most important allies and the only democracy in the Middle East.
Israel has been at war with Hamas since the group launched a terrorist attack that killed 1,200 civilians on Oct. 7.ZUMAPRESS.com
He barely hides the fact that this “strategy” is designed to rule Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom Sanders hates so much and whom he calls “an indictment for corruption.”
His meddling in Israel’s internal affairs is unwarranted as Israel asks why Sanders has three homes on government payroll.
The people of Israel will decide whether they want to elect a new leadership after the war. America should respect their democratic process and help them defeat the existential threat posed by modern-day Nazis.
A United States senator who sides with the real enemy of America and Israel is unbecoming of his high position.
David M. Friedman served as the United States ambassador to Israel from 2017 to 2021. He is the founder of the Friedman Center for Peace Through Strength.
