Bethenny Frankel Discusses Instagram’s Hidden Message

Bethenny Frankel is getting real about the use of filters and photoshopping and bringing the topic of healthy self-esteem to the surface. The “Real Housewives of New York City” alum, 51, posted a side-by-side photo on Instagram — one filtered and one natural — to show the difference. She began the caption, “Hey, this is me, your favorite censored friend… just making myself look a little better, a little younger, so you think I look better than you. Doesn’t that really build your self-esteem ? I spent hours with a tech assistant to make myself look good and you feel bad!”

“What Do We Share With Our Children?”

The caption continued, “More hair, less wrinkles, perfectly smooth skin, higher cheekbones, more defined brows, smaller face, bigger lips… when will it end? The online world we live in is crazy. Very it’s important that we acknowledge what’s going on with censorship and photoshop and outright lies. What message are we all buying into? What are we sharing with our children?” She also added a PS at the bottom that read, “When it’s filtered or I sparkle, you’ll know! Xo”

The comments on his post were supportive, praising and thanking him for speaking openly and openly about this topic.

“You look so much better without a filter. So real and beautifully natural”

“How do we get this message across to young girls?”

“Thank you Thank you Thank you!! First of all I don’t understand why people post filter photos and try to pass them off as real photos. Second and maybe even worse are the people who comment and tell them how beautiful they are.”

Frankel Is All About Real Talk And Real Photos

Frankel has brought discussions about edited photos, the use of filters and unrealistic body images to her social media pages recently, as well as calling out society’s views on beauty. Last month, the reality star shared a similar post but instead of just a headshot, she used a full-body photo to show what the filter did to her waist and chest.

“This is NOT what I look like…and you know that because I’m not vain and showing you the real me. But if I post this version every day you might start to believe that it could happen. This is how distorted this all is, ” the note began. “Censorship is a lie: it deceives. It makes women feel bad about themselves. It makes young girls insecure and obsessed with unattainable perfection. It makes middle-aged women and mothers feel insecure about themselves. It creates false ideals for men. It’s anti-inspirational. It’s destructive. It’s irresponsible. It’s unsafe and it’s inaccurate. There’s a line between trying to look good and outright falsehood.”
