Beverly Hills Police Arrest Gunman Near Clive Davis’ Grammy Party Venue

This year’s preparations for Clive Davis’ much-anticipated Grammy party almost suffered an unexpected disruption thanks to an armed shooter.

The drama went down at the Waldorf Astoria, a luxury hotel adjacent to the famous Beverly Hilton Hotel — where Davis’ event was to be held. Authorities swarmed the area following a “keep the peace” call about a male guest who had opened fire in his hotel room.

Armed Suspect Allegedly Threatens To Shoot People Through His Door

A statement from the Beverly Hills Police Department, obtained by The Blast, describes Thursday’s shocking incident. At approximately 9:39 am, officers responded to the Waldorf Astoria following a welfare check request from hotel security.

They explained that a male guest might be armed and dangerous, saying he raised a red flag after security knocked on his door and heard someone yell: “I’m going to shoot through the door!” BHPD responded to the threat by using a drone to observe the suspect, who was spotted holding a firearm on a hotel balcony.

His caring demeanor led to additional BHPD officers swarming the scene, including Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) personnel, Crisis Negotiations (CNT) personnel, detectives, and mutual aid resources. While these officers are sealing off the area, BHPD’s Real Time Surveillance Center is constantly monitoring the suspect’s movements.

Before long, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel is a scene out of a movie with crisis counselors on site to communicate with the suspect and make sure no one is hurt. Fortunately, the negotiations went smoothly as the man emerged from his room unarmed and unopposed.

BHPD stated there were no reports of any injuries; however, preliminary investigations conducted by detectives determined that the suspect had fired several shots in his hotel room.

The man, identified as 41-year-old Joseph Leonardi of Woodland Hills, California, was arrested and charged with the following charges: “Felon in possession of a firearm” and “Reckless discharge of a firearm.” Investigators also revealed this was not his first arrest, as he was a convicted felon.

Inside Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Party

Before the shocking shooting incident at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Davis opened up about her upcoming pre-Grammy party and what fans can expect. The iconic record producer has been throwing memorable galas the night before the Grammys since 1976.

Davis parties are known for surprise performances and star-studded guest lists, with this year’s event being no exception. The Grammy-winning producer revealed that “guest requests are the biggest they’ve ever been,” which means some celebrities won’t be listed.

When asked, “How hard is it to turn down a guest?” The 91-year-old man admits that it is very challenging to accommodate everyone, including new figures in the entertainment industry. In his words:

“It’s difficult because to organize, to accommodate some of the newer major players that need to be there in the world of streaming and social media and film and entertainment, you obviously have to make some cuts.”

“So whether it’s passing the baton or having that person come without a plus one, we’ve got to do it. [The] The limited number of viewers is 950 because of all our production facilities. And you know, it hurts to do that, but we have to do it,” Davis explained.

However, fans can expect to see the most famous performers at the Pre-Grammy party as music executives are not excluding important players. When asked to reveal the most famous person he’s turned down, Davis admitted he’s never done it.

“I really can’t answer that politely. … [And] not so many famous people are rejected, [but] there are people with big careers who might be allowed to bring their wives and say, ‘Look, we’re not going to turn you down, but you can’t have a plus one,'” he said.

In his interview with Hollywood ReporterDavis confirmed that Beyonce and Jay-Z will be at the party on Saturday, February 3. He also noted this year’s show will feature a mix of “great performers of all time and great new performers.”

As for other public figures attending the upcoming bash, Davis confirmed Scottie Pippen and Martina Navratilova from the sports world along with Nancy Pelosi from politics will attend. “It’s really exciting! It will truly be a mesmerizing audience,” declared the 91-year-old.
