In 2013, Beyoncé surprised the world with the unexpected release of “Beyoncé,” performing each song with an accompanying short film. The surprise album caused a stir among fans, generating 1.2 million tweets in the first 12 hours after its release.
The self-titled album also quickly made history as the fastest-selling album on iTunes, climbing to the top of the Billboard music charts within an incredible three days of its release.
Celebrating the ten-year milestone, the Grammy winner shared behind-the-scenes footage of the album’s creation, snippets from the music video and fan reactions on her Instagram page. Speaking in the video, Beyoncé revealed:
“I still fear every album release. I am always looking for a deeper purpose in my art. Thoughts about life, my dreams, or my fantasy.”
Later in the clip, the singer-songwriter is seen walking on the beach with her daughter, Blue Ivy, who was welcomed in 2012, in her arms. “Just because you become a mother doesn’t mean you lose who you are,” shared the mother of three before revealing her decision to release a studio album without any fanfare. He said:
“I don’t want anyone to message me when my record will come out. I just want this out when it’s ready…and from me to my fans.”
As for fans’ reactions, three of them were seen wearing headphones as one stated, “Wait a minute,” another shared, “I’m sorry. I think Beyonce just released an album on iTunes,” and a third exclaimed, “What, OMG.”
Concluding the video, Beyoncé reflects on the album, describing it as the “anti-perfection,” adding, “Happy 10th anniversary.”
In the comments section, one fan claimed, “It’s officially “Give yourself a d— flower,” a second said, “Everyone remembers where they were this fall,” and a third emphasized, “Anti-perfection, and yet… perfect in every way!!!”
“I like renaissance but this album I think is my favorite. It’s a s—. I still love those songs,” the fourth Instagram user revealed as the fifth recalled, “I remember my husband waking me up in the middle of the night to tell me the album had dropped. I can’t access iTunes fast!!!! This release cements his iconic status.”
Underscoring her authority, a sixth fan wrote a line from Beyoncé’s “Feeling Myself” collaboration with Nicki Minaj. They wrote, “CHANGER THE GAME WITH THAT DIGITAL DROP!!!!!,” while a seventh pointed out, “Videos that fall simultaneously are insane.”
Even the 42-year-old’s older sister, Solange, joined in on the conversation, simply typing, “HISTORY !” in the comments.

Beyoncé was the recipient of a surprise when she landed in Santa Clara, California in August as part of her Renaissance World Tour. As it turned out, he was crowned the mayor of the city and he expressed his feelings about the achievement during a concert at Levi’s Stadium. As for the honor itself, The Blast reports that the Santa Clara City Council gave Beyoncé the key to the city and proclaimed her its mayor before her show. Santa Clara spokeswoman Michelle Templeton spoke at the event, stressing the city’s joy at having a megastar in their midst.
In his words, “The City of Santa Clara is excited about Beyonce’s upcoming visit to the world famous Levi’s Stadium. The concert will definitely bring a lot of energy and excitement.”
