Biden campaign joins Truth Social: ‘Thought it would be very funny’

The people behind “Dark Brandon” want to make sure that Donald Trump is not alone in his Social Truth area.

President Biden’s re-election campaign confirmed on Monday that it launched an account on the platform created and owned by Trump, where it aims to combat “misinformation and misinformation”.

“There’s a bit of ‘truth’ going on at Truth Social, but at least now it’s going to be a little fun,” a Biden campaign aide told The Post.

The new account, with the handle BidenHQ, launched its first post around 1:35 p.m.: “Well. Let’s see how this goes. Converts are welcome!”

The Biden campaign then continued to poke fun at Trump by airing clips, such as Fox News praising the incumbent and 2024 candidates such as former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley ripping the 77-year-old former president.

In May, a campaign official told an Axios reporter that it will not join the platform at all. But on Monday, the campaign told the same channel: “We changed our minds.”

“We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be really funny,” campaign confirmed on X.

Trump started Truth Social in October 2021 after he was kicked out of Facebook, Instagram, and what was later known as Twitter following the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

The platform now serves as a stage for the 45th president to issue digital tirade against his political and legal enemies.

Trump has since been allowed to return to the platform that blocked him, but still favors Truth Social, a user base dominated by conservatives and led by former Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).

“Crooked Joe Biden and his team are finally admitting that Truth Social is hot as a gun and the only place where real news happens,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told The Post.

“Unfortunately for Biden, his continued spreading of misinformation to fire up the American people to distract from his poor record will not work and they will count as oblivion.”

Truth Social served as a temporary tribute to Trump’s net worth, which has since slipped off the Forbes 400 list amid civil and criminal litigation against him.

Meanwhile, the Biden campaign has been flush with cash as Republicans compete against each other for the 2024 nomination.

The Biden campaign, the Democratic National Committee and two joint fundraising committees raised more than $71 million between July 1 and Sept. 30, according to financial filings.

The Republican National Committee does not support any candidate with all its resources until the candidate is selected.

The Trump campaign raised $24.5 million, just below the $24.8 million the Biden campaign raised, according to Federal Election Commission records.

Both Trump and Biden are favorites to win their respective parties’ nominations and face off in a 2020 rematch.
