President Biden’s job approval rating among independents has hit a record low, according to a new poll.
Only 27% of political independents approve of the job Biden, 81, has done in the White House, an 8-point drop from last month, according to a Gallup poll released Tuesday.
Contributing to the president’s lackluster approval among key voters is his handling of the economy and the conflict between Israel and Palestine, with Biden receiving lower marks than independent candidates.
Among the unaffiliated, Gallup measured Biden’s approval rating on the economy at 24%, and his efforts in navigating the US role in the Middle East conflict received only 25% approval.
The president received slightly better grades on his handling of Russia’s war in Ukraine, 31%, foreign affairs in general, 28%, and health care policy, 35%.

About 49% of Americans consider themselves politically independent, according to the poll.
The group has also expressed skepticism in recent polls about Biden’s advanced age and his involvement in his son’s business affairs.
A Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll released last week found that 59% of independents believe the president “aided and abetted” the first son’s business dealings, which the Republican-led House impeachment inquiry launched in September is investigating.
A Yahoo News poll, also released earlier this month, determined that only 22% of independents think Biden is competent and 69% are concerned about his health and mental acuity.
The Gallup telephone poll of 1,013 adults, conducted between Nov. 1 and Nov. 21, found Biden’s overall job approval rating at 37%, marking the third time this year the president has tied his record low.
“With less than a year to go before the presidential election, Biden continues to receive low ratings from the American public. His overall job approval rating remains at a personal low and is in historically dangerous territory for an incumbent seeking re-election,” the survey examiner said.
