WASHINGTON – President Biden quipped last Friday about an unprecedented photo of former President Donald Trump, which was released Thursday afternoon after he was sentenced in an Atlanta jail.
“I saw him on television,” a smiling Biden told reporters after leaving a Pilates class in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., adding: “Handsome guy, great guy.”
The 80-year-old president is vacationing at billionaire Tom Steyer’s lakeside mansion and also commented on Wednesday night’s first Republican primary debate.
“I don’t remember them talking about any issue. I mean there’s a lot of talk, but what are they going to do to address economic growth?” said Biden, whose own handling of the economy has been heavily criticized at the debate.
Trump, who is seeking a rematch against Biden in next year’s election, became the first US president to come under fire when he turned himself in at the Fulton County Jail to face charges linked to his efforts to overturn Biden’s narrow 2020 victory in Georgia.
The former president has sought to use mugshots to advance his campaign.

He posted for the first time since January 2021 on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, denouncing the image and captioning it, “ELECTION INTERFERENCE NEVER GIVE UP!”
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows also posed for photos, along with 16 other co-defendants.
The case was brought by Democratic District Attorney-elect Fani Willis, who alleged the group formed an illegal conspiracy to overturn the results of Georgia’s election.

It was Trump’s fourth arrest this year, but the first required an arrest.
