President Biden faces a fast-paced itinerary at the UN General Assembly this week, including high-profile talks with the leaders of Brazil, Israel and Ukraine.
The meeting comes as Biden is expected to be the only member of the five-nation UN Security Council scheduled to attend the event.
Other world leaders, such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak skipped the annual gathering, as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UNGA comes after a meeting Similar to the Group of 20 in New Delhi, India, earlier this month, where both Xi and Putin skipped the event.
Putin is facing an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court which many speculate has prevented the visit and Xi will send the vice president, Han Zheng on his behalf.
The absence of Xi and Putin will leave Biden with a potential diplomatic opening to enter developing countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia, which the US is keen to distance from both the Russian and Chinese orbits.

At the event, Biden is expected to meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Later, on Thursday, Biden will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House for talks, marking the third such visit from Ukraine since Biden took office.
In all three cases, Biden has important diplomatic objectives pending in the background.
The administration is eager to expand the Abraham Accords that former President Donald Trump helped broker — leading to the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Biden and Netanyahu have clashed publicly over Israel’s judicial overhaul, which imposes limits on the types of laws the country’s Supreme Court can lift from the Knesset.

But both have publicly insisted that their relationship remains cordial despite some differences.
Last week, following the Group of 20 summit, Lula sparked an international backlash by claiming Brazil would not arrest Putin during next year’s G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil is widely seen as an important ally in South America. Lula later backed up his comments and suggested he would let the justice system play out.
But the episode underscored some concerns about Brazil’s position in Moscow.
Biden has sought to rally nations against Russia to defend Ukraine.
He also strives to do the same at home. Zelensky’s visit to Washington, DC, comes at a time when Congress is fighting for government funding.
A handful of state lawmakers are eager to cut funding for Ukraine amid a government shutdown fight.
Biden asked Congress for an additional $13.1 billion in military aid and $8.5 billion in humanitarian aid.
So far, Congress has approved more than $113 billion in both military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded February 22, 2022, according to the Defense Department’s Office of the Inspector General.
But not all the funds are necessarily used again.
In July, the Defense Department said it had committed $43 billion in security assistance since the war broke out in February last year.
The UNGA high-level event is scheduled to take place from 19 to 26 Sept.
