Two-thirds (67%) of respondents also disapprove of Biden’s handling of the war between Israel and Hamas, with the same number (68%) opposed to the US sending military aid to the Jewish state and the same percentage saying Washington should push for a ceasefire.
“We do not believe that a ceasefire is the right answer right now,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters at the White House Monday. “We believe that the current ceasefire benefits Hamas, and Hamas is the only one that will benefit from it now because – as Israel continues – to prosecute their operations against the Hamas leadership.
“What we are saying should be considered and explored is a temporary local humanitarian pause to allow aid to reach certain populations and perhaps also to help evacuate people who want to get out, move more south,” added Kirby. “We support that. We do not support a ceasefire at this time.”
