Billie Eilish has weighed in on her controversial statement that recently angered Taylor Swift fans. In an interview, Eilish criticized artists who released multiple versions of their albums, and some netizens speculated that she was subtly calling out Swift.
Following Swifties’ criticism on social media, the 22-year-old singer has clarified that she does not single out any artists, including the “Anti-Hero” songstress.

In recent Billboard interview about her efforts to make her professional life more environmentally sustainable, Eilish spoke out against the common practice of unnamed “big artists” releasing multiple versions of their albums.
His comments immediately sparked the ire of Swifties after some social media users speculated that he was subtly hiding the “Bad Blood” singer.
Eilish has now taken to her Instagram Stories to offer a statement in her defense while also tagging her original Billboard interview.

“Okay, so it would be really great if people would stop putting words in my mouth and actually read what I said in that billboard article,” he wrote.
“I did not pick anyone; this is an industry-wide systemic issue,” added Eilish.

In his statement, the “Bad Guy” singer also admitted that he was guilty of releasing variants to encourage fans to buy the same album multiple times.
However, it is unclear whether he made the decision or whether his record label had the final say on his release.
“[And] when it comes to variants, so many artists release them—including ME! which I clearly stated in the article,” he continued.
“The climate crisis is now, and it’s about us all being part of the problem and trying to do better, sheesh,” Eilish concluded.
Singer Called Movement ‘Wasting’

In an interview with BillboardEilish bemoaned the environmental impact of such practices and noted how “big artists” who do it are “wasteful,” all in an effort to boost album and vinyl sales.
He said, “We’re living in an age where, for some reason, it’s very important for some artists to do different types of vinyl and different packaging … that increases sales and increases the volume and makes more money and makes more. …”
“I can’t tell you how wasteful it is,” he said. “It’s right in front of our faces, and people are overlooking it left and right.”
“I think it’s very frustrating because someone who is really trying hard to be sustainable and doing the best I can and trying to involve everyone on my team to be sustainable — and then it’s one of the biggest artists in the world making f —— 40 different vinyl packages that have different unique things just to keep you buying more,” continued Eilish.
“It’s so wasteful, and it annoys me that we’re still at a point where you care so much about your numbers and you care so much about making money — and that’s all your favorite artists doing that—,” he added.
Swifties Slammed Her For The Comment

Eilish’s explanation didn’t come soon enough, as she angered Swift’s fans, who slammed her for her comments and boasted that Swift’s album sales were higher than hers.
“Billie literally described Taylor’s tactics with the TTPD. It’s so unnecessary,” claimed one fan.
Another felt Eilish’s comments were inappropriate and hypocritical, commenting: “Taylor and other similar artists’ digs about charts and numbers are unnecessary and undermine her original point of view. Billie herself releases multiple vinyl variants (sustainably) so her views on charts and number obsessions are hypocritical.
“Swifties and K-pop stan found on the floor,” tweeted one X user.
Another fan shared a video of Eilish splashing white paint on her latest album. “He really did this for the sale, calling it ‘signed,'” they said.
Sustainability Is A Never-Ending Struggle For Billie Eilish

Elsewhere in his interview with BillboardEilish cares about her less desirable career field in terms of sustainability.
He stated that the effort to improve the climate situation is a never-ending struggle but noted that he cannot achieve it alone.
“It’s a never-ending fight,” Eilish said. “As we all know, it is quite impossible to force someone to care. All you can do is express and explain your beliefs, but many people don’t really understand the severity of the climate [crisis].”
He continued, “And if they do, they’re like, ‘Well, what’s the point? We’re all going to die anyway.’ Believe me, I feel the same way. But ‘what’s the point’ goes both ways: ‘What’s the point? I can do whatever I want. We’re all going to die anyway.’ Or, ‘What’s the point? I might as well do the right thing while I’m here.’ That’s my view.”
