Billie Lourd Admits She Did Not Invite Carrie Fisher’s Brother, Sisters To Hollywood Ceremony

The daughter of the late actress Carrie Fisher, Billie Lourd, spoke publicly about the fact that Carrie’s brother, Todd Fisher, and sisters – Joely Fisher and Tricia Leigh Fisher – made their invitation to the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Thursday.

The three brothers claimed they were not invited to the event. The sisters blamed daughter Carrie for the slight, while Todd said that he was told that Disney controlled the guest list.

However, with many family members speaking out against her, Billie has decided to come out with a rare public statement to address the statements made by her family after they, in her words, “attacked me publicly.”

“I’ve seen the press releases and press releases put out by my mother’s brother and sister,” Billie began in a lengthy statement shared via The Hollywood Reporter.”I apologize to anyone reading this for feeling the need to publicly defend myself from members this family. But unfortunately, because they attack me publicly, I have to respond publicly. Actually I didn’t invite them to this party. They know why.”

“A few days after my mother died, her brother and sister chose to process their grief openly and take advantage of my mother’s death, by doing several interviews and selling individual books for a lot of money, with the death of my mother and grandmother as the subject,” he explained. “I found out they had done this through the press.”

“They never consulted me or considered how this would affect our relationship. The truth of my mother’s very complicated relationship with her family is known only to me and those who are actually close to her,” he wrote. “While I realize they have the right to do whatever they choose, their actions hurt me deeply at the most difficult time of my life. I chose and still choose to deal with his loss in a much different way. “

“The press release Todd Fisher gave to TMZ and the post Joely Fisher put on Instagram, once again confirmed that my instincts were right,” he explained. “To be clear – there was no disagreement. We had no relationship. It was a conscious decision on my part to break a cycle with a way of life that I wanted no part of for myself or my children.

“People who knew and loved my mother at Disney and Lucasfilm have made this star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to honor her legacy,” he added. “This moment is about Carrie Fisher and all that she accomplished and what she meant to the world. I will focus on that. May the 4th be with you.”

The Hollywood Walk Of Fame website announced that Billie Lourd will receive the star at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard near the El Captain Theater at 11:30 a.m. local time on Thursday, May 4.

“It is strange that we will not be present to celebrate our sister, whom we adore. For some strange and perverted reason, our niece chose not to include us in this epic moment in our sister’s career,” they wrote. “This is something that Carrie would have wanted her siblings to be present for. The fact that her only brother and two sisters were intentionally and deliberately excluded was shocking.”

“We’ve all been grieving the loss of our loved one for several years now…we’ve given Billie the space to do it her way,” they continued. “We are nothing but loving and open, consistently. This isn’t about a photo op on Hollywood Blvd…it’s about celebrating the immortality of Carrie’s legacy in the industry, taking her place with the stars on the iconic journey of fame with our parents.”

“We are grateful to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for honoring our little sister in this way. May the Fourth be with you. Joely and Tricia Leigh Fisher,” they concluded. Todd’s remarks to TMZ can be read here.
