Actor Billy Dee Williams has the potential to return to a galaxy far, far away!
Shortly after Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover were announced to be writing the script for Disney+’s live-action series “Lando,” Williams took to Twitter to tease a new project. Since Williams originated the role of Lando Calrissian in the original trilogy, fans are wondering if this means there is a new role being carved out for the 86-year-old actor in the new series!

On August 1, the cast of “Brian’s Song” participated Twitter to make an announcement, revealing that a dream came true for him, although he did not reveal what the dream was.
“I’m so excited to share that something really great is coming soon,” Williams wrote. “This is a dream come true for me, for all that has sustained and carried me through a lifetime of dreams and adventures, it is my honor to share it with you.”

“You’re going to be in the upcoming Lando series?” asked a fan. “Would be sweet if it was after TROS and had flashbacks throughout with Donald Glover,” one follower replied. “Yes, I think he will introduce each story. And we will never know how much truth there is in each story,” replied the fan.
“It sounds exciting. Can’t wait to see what happens,” shared another follower. “Is this about the Lando project for Disney+?” asked another fan. “Is the Lando series narrated by Billy Dee Williams?!?? Although the Disney+ series “Lando” was first announced in 2020, little progress has been made on the series since then. The 2018 film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” featuring Donald Glover playing a young Lando, was a box office failure, which didn’t generate much buzz for a potential TV series.
However, that all changed last month when Variety reported that the “Atlanta” star and his brother, Stephen Glover, would write a new “Lando” series in a deal reached before the writers’ strike began. In 2020, “Dear White People” creator Justin Simen was attached to the project, but he is no longer working on the series.

In April 2023, the “Community” actor told GQ reveal that he was interested in returning to the character and a galaxy far, far away. “I’d love to play Lando again. It was a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious,” he said.
“The last few years, this pandemic—, it’s really made people experience time… People are realizing that their time is precious. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that will waste my time or just pay,” he continued. “I prefer to spend time with the people I like. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it can be. Lando is definitely someone I enjoy hanging out with.”

Glover previously talked about reprising the role in 2018’s Town Hall. “It’s always going to be fun to be Lando again,” he said at the time. “The film, I think, is wide open. This part of the universe without… I think like with the Skywalkers, it’s hard because it’s almost like the Bible.”
“There’s a story you have to tell, and that’s the lineage of the family,” he continued. “I feel like here, yeah, we’re like hunters and gamblers and space pirates, basically, so you can do more and have more fun.”
