In an interview with Entertainment TonightGardell shared that he no longer has Type 2 diabetes after undergoing massive weight loss following his gastric bypass surgery in 2021.

The actor weighed more than 370 pounds almost a decade ago but now “floats between 205 and 210,” having lost more than 150 pounds.

Other benefits that come with weight loss include a drop in resting heart rate from 113 to 68 and finally being able to shop for clothes in stores outside of stores that only catered to her weight before.

While her new look makes her happy, Gardell claims that some individuals have overlooked the benefits of her lifestyle change and will instead ask probing and unnecessary questions.

“There’s always people online who, you know, when I was heavy, they were like ‘You’re too heavy!’ And now it’s like, ‘Are you sick?’ Can I walk the earth, please,” said the actor.

The “Mike & Molly” alum added that her desire to live long enough to play an important role in her son’s life drives her to work hard every day.

“When you hit 50, you start doing that dad math, like, ‘If I can live another 25 years, and he’ll be 40,’ … You know what I mean? So I want to be here for him,” he said, referring to the son William III he shares with Patty Knight

“I have been a role model in many good ways for my son, but I don’t think I have been a good role model for him. So I want him to see it.”
