Actor Bob Odenkirk says he regrets rejecting the medical advice of a “fussy” conservative doctor during a podcast.
Odenkirk told podcaster and comedian Tig Nataro that he had a grumpy and conservative doctor while discussing a health scare that occurred on the set of “Better Call Saul” in 2021.
“When I turned 50, I went in, he’s a cardiologist, Cedar-Sinai, and he’s registered around his office at this point. [saying] ‘We don’t accept Obamacare,’ and I hate that side of him that I’m only learning over time,” he said.
Odenkirk said his doctor, who has been with him for 20 years, told him he needed to start taking statins, drugs that help lower cholesterol.
“And I said, ‘Well, I don’t know. I don’t have heart disease in my family.’ He goes, ‘Just take them,’ he continued.
The actress said she went to another doctor who told her, “You don’t need medicine yet.”
Odenkirk said he had a heart attack and added that he thought the first doctor was right.
“And I had a heart attack. And I think the first doctor was right,” the actor said. “The grumpy conservative joke was right, because he was a good doctor. His political views have nothing to do with his ability to assess your health and your health preferences and needs.”

In July 2021, Odenkirk collapsed on the set of “Better Call Saul” and was rushed to the hospital.
He returned to the set of “Better Call Saul” in September 2021 and resumed filming.
In March 2022, he opened up about the incident during an interview on NBC’s “Today.”
“I wasn’t there for anything, but I was told it was a pretty shocking day on set and traumatized for all my co-stars and crew, people I love so much who loved me and stood by me and then went to the hospital with me,” he said at that time.
