Boney Kapoor is one of Bollywood’s most carefree film producers known for fulfilling his director’s vision, and not just spending money. He is also known as a brave producer who does not hesitate to give opportunities to newcomers, be it actors, directors or musicians. He is also gifted with the ability to identify the right talent. It is not wrong to say that he is better known as the husband of Sridevi, than as a successful producer. See Boney Kapoor Wiki, Height, Weight, Age, Wife, Family, Biography, Facts & More
Biography/Wiki
Boney Kapoor is a 69-year-old Bollywood Film producer (born on 11 November 1955). He was born Achal Kapoor to a film-making Punjabi family, who migrated to India from Peshawar, Pakistan. His family initially lived in Raj Kapoor’s car garage when they landed in Mumbai. In those struggling days, his family also lived in the ‘chawl’ area of Mumbai.
He inherited his production skills from his father, who was a famous film producer. Although his older brothers – Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor became actors, he continued his father’s legacy by choosing to become a producer.
Family, Caste & Wife
Boney Kapoor comes from a Punjabi-Khatri family with roots in Pakistan. His father, Late Surinder Kapoor, was a famous producer and his mother, Nirmal Kapoor was a housewife.
He has 3 younger brothers – Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, and a younger sister, Reena Kapoor.
He first married TV Producer Mona Kapoor in 1983. Everything went well until Sridevi started staying at Boney’s house and used to consider Boney as her elder brother.
But destiny has some other plans, because with time Boney and Sridevi are getting closer and she is pregnant with Boney’s child.
This clearly shocked Mona, whose marriage broke down after that. In 1996, Boney married Sridevi after leaving his first wife, Mona and children, Arjun and Anshula.
The couple has 2 daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
Her married life derailed on 24 February 2018, when Sridevi died in Dubai after suffering a massive heart attack.
Career
Like his father, he always wanted to be a publisher and began his career as an assistant editor in the 1970s. Later, he started working as an assistant director under Shakti Samanta. His first production, Hum Paanch (1980) was a multilingual remake, which went on to become a trendsetter in Bollywood.
He reached the peak of his production career with the sci-fi film Mr. India starring his brother Anil Kapoor and his future wife Sridevi. The film became a cult classic in Indian cinema for various reasons, such as – Sridevi’s song “Hawa Hawaii”, Amrish Puri’s one line “Mogambo khush hua” (Mogambo is happy), and the concept of the invisible man.
Some of the biggest hits include – En. India, Judaai, Pukar, Company, No Entry and Wanted.
Controversy
On April 8, 2023, at a check post near Hebbalu toll in Davangere, Karnataka, the Election Commission of India (ECI) seized 66 kg of silver worth Rs 39 lakhs allegedly belonging to Boney Kapoor.
