Boston mayor under fire for ‘no whites’ Christmas party for city’s ‘Electeds of Color’

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu isn’t dreaming of a white Christmas — a party, that is.

Invitations to the Boston mayor’s holiday party, specifically for the “Elected of Color,” were mistakenly sent by an aide to all members of the Boston City Council.

About 15 minutes later, the aide, Denise DosSantos, who serves as the mayor’s City Council communications director, issued a follow-up email flagging the embarrassing mistake.

“I want to apologize for my previous email regarding the Holiday Party for tomorrow,” DosSantos wrote.

White councilors should not accept invitations.

“I sent it to everyone by accident, and I apologize if my email may have offended or come across as such,” the aide added. “Sorry for any confusion this may cause.”

The Boston City Council consists of six minority and seven white members.

The revelation of the secret “no white people” holiday party got some backlash and sent social media into a frenzy.

City Councilman Frank Baker, a white Democrat, blasted the move as “unfortunate and divisive,” but insisted it did not affect him personally.

“I’m not too easily offended,” Baker told the Boston Herald. “To offend me, you have to do more than not invite me to a party.”

“I find it unfortunate that with the temperature like that, we’re going to continue that division,” Baker said.

Others deflected criticism of the shindig.

Councilor Brian Worrell, a black Democrat who appears poised to become Council vice president next term, argued there was nothing unusual about the party.

“We provide spaces and spaces for all kinds of specific groups in city and town government,” Worrell told the Boston Herald.

“This is no different, and Chosen Officers of Color have been around for more than a decade.”

Conservative social media is less than thrilled with news of a racially segregated holiday party.

“Mayor Wu is NOT dreaming of a white Christmas. And he will NOT be serving white wine tonight. Or white meat chicken. No pale faces invited to the Parkman House powwow!” New England radio host Howie Carr joked on X.

“So in Boston, you can’t attend the mayor’s holiday party if you’re white. How much longer will the American people put up with this left wing racist bullshit?” conservative X user Rod Dreher writes.

“Ladies and Gentlemen (And the confused) Just in time for the holiday season – Introducing the new “ebonics” term – (no kidding – it’s cultural) ‘Color Picked,’” said radio host Bo Snerdley.

Earlier this year, Wu was surrounded by controversy for the list of so-called “enemies”.

The Post contacted Wu’s office for comment.

She became the first woman of color and Asian American to be elected to serve as Mayor of The Hub in 2021.
