Boy, 6, to be ‘weaned off’ ventilator after neighbor beat him with bat in horrific ‘random’ attack: family

A 6-year-old Texas boy who was beaten with a bat by his neighbor will be slowly “weaned” off a respirator as he begins to recover from the ordeal, his family said.

Jeremy Tang Diaz has been in critical condition since Daniel Logan allegedly attacked him inside his Georgetown home on September 11, leaving him with brain swelling and multiple skull fractures.

His father, Arthur Diaz, said in an update on GoFundMe that “Jeremy continues to show signs of improvement.”

“As of this morning, he has been struggling to control his lung function and they are working to wean him off the ventilator, as it appears he no longer needs that support,” she wrote on the fundraiser, which has raised more than $220,000.

“In Jiu Jitsu speaking, he rolls with death and puts him down. He rolls for his limb function and wins. He’s now rolled over to control his lungs, and it looks like he’s going to win that battle too.”

Logan was arrested and charged with injury to a child in the first degree. He was also charged with first-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member after he allegedly hit his own mother with a bat as well, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities have not released a motive for the horrific attack on the child.

His wife told police that she woke up in the middle of the night to find her husband missing and noticed a hole in the fence and the Diaz family’s back door open.

He then saw his mother-in-law come out of the boy’s home covered in blood and yelling “that Daniel was killing everyone inside,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Austin American-Statesman.

Logan’s mother told investigators she followed him into the house and up to the second floor, where she found Jeremy “slid on the floor of the upstairs bedroom,” authorities said.

When she begged him to stop, he allegedly hit her with a bat.
