Brantley Gilbert moved to Nashville and signed with Warner Chappell Publishing, where he continued to play local venues. On October 27, 2009, he released his first album, Modern Day Prodigal Son, through indie label Average Joes Entertainment. On March 16, 2010, he released his second album, Halfway to Heaven, under the same label. In 2011, he signed with Valory Music Co., part of Big Machine Records, and re-released Halfway to Heaven with new recordings and songs.
His first two songs, “Country Must Be Country Wide” and “You Don’t Know Her As I Do,” reached the top of the Hot Country Songs chart.
