Brazen thieves drag entire ATM from van, sending sparks flying down Oakland road: video

They are certainly not flashy.

A wild video shows the moment a gang of thieves in Oakland pull an entire bank ATM out of the ground, tie it to the back of a van with rope and then drag the metal machine as it speeds down the road, sending sparks flying through the air.

The footage was recorded by a bystander, according to KTVU, which obtained the clip.

Two ATMs – including the one dragged by the van – were stolen Sunday from separate locations in a California city struggling with rising property crimes, according to Oakland police.

The automated teller machine in the video was stolen from outside the Bank of America on Hegenberger Road shortly before 7:30 a.m., the police department said.

“Multiple individuals” used tools to rip open the ATM before taking off with it – as shown in the video, police said.

The witness who filmed the rampage told KTVU he saw three or four people involved in the theft.

Another ATM was stolen from a nearby business on Alameda Avenue about an hour earlier, police said.
