Brett moved to New York City after graduating with fellow actor and classmate Jon Daly. He began his theater career in New York, where he was a regular performer at the Upright Citizens’ Brigade Theatre. He has performed in theater for over ten years as a member of the Cracked Out duet, Monkey Dick’s improvisational ensemble, the sketch group Mr. A$$, etc. In 2004, Gelman made his cinematic debut as a member of Team Mayhem in Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story.
Following that, he made his television debut in 2005, appearing in two television programs, Coke (as Gonzalez) and The Colbert Report (as Spencer).
