Controversy
Steroid use
When Brian began his journey as a social media influencer, he once claimed that his body was “natural” and that he never used steroids to gain muscle. On November 29, 2022, a YouTuber named Derek, who has a YouTube channel called More Plates More Dates, posted an hour-long video titled “The Liver King Lie” in which he said that the Liver King used steroids extensively for bodybuilding. He also said that Brian mailed a bodybuilding coach on June 29, 2021 and claimed that he uses steroids to build his body and spends about $11k per month on steroids. He also claims that he has taken steroids such as Omnitrope, Inutamoren, Winstrol 50mg, IGF 1 – LR, Decca, Test Cyp, etc. After the video reveal, Brian released a 6-minute apology video on December 2, 2022 in which he accepted his mistake of using steroids and apologized for “lying and misleading” his followers. He also said that he cannot reveal the truth because many people with poor mental health see him as their idol. In his video, he said,
I made this video to apologize because I messed up, because I was ashamed and embarrassed, because I lied and I misled a lot of people. It’s really hard to navigate. Obviously, I was wrong and I’m here now to set the record straight — yes, I did steroids and yes, I used steroids monitored and managed by a trained hormone doctor. While spreading the message, I’ve been on a few podcasts, and when asked if I’ve ever taken steroids, I always say, ‘no. I did not touch the item. Won’t touch that stuff. Never touched that stuff.’ That is a lie. I have convinced myself that this has nothing to do with the message of the ancestors. I fully own that I have failed. I’m sorry as a man, and all I can do is take extreme ownership now, be better, and lead myself to a better life as a better human being.”
