The 23-year-old praised his ex-fiancé who wrote, “I love you more than anything… When I close my eyes I think of lying on the roof of a van, falling asleep watching meteor showers on crystal spring water. . I will always love you.”

Laundrie then goes into the grim details surrounding his death.

“I heard splashes and screams. I could barely see, I couldn’t find him for a moment, screaming his name. I found him breathing heavily as he gasped my name, he was cold. We just came from a hot National Park in Utah,” he wrote. “The temperature had dropped to freezing and he was drenched. I carried her as far as I could down the river to the car, stumbling exhausted from shock, when my knees gave out and I knew I couldn’t carry her safely. I lit the fire and spooned him as close to hot, he was very thin, had been frozen too long. At the time I couldn’t realize that I should have started the fire first but I wanted him out of the cold back into the car.”

He stated that he had a small bump on his forehead that grew as time went by.

“His leg hurts. His wrists hurt but he was frozen, shaking violently, while carrying him he continued to make sounds of pain, lying on his side he said in between violent shakes, gasping in pain, begging for the pain to stop,” his notebook entry continued. “I ended his life, I thought it was mercy, that’s what he wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked, I was shocked. But since I decided, taking away his pain, I knew I couldn’t go on without him.”

Laundrie said she rushed home without Gabby’s body to spend “any time I had left with my family.”

He said he wanted to drive north to let the two men kill him, but he didn’t want them to “spend time in jail for my mistake.”

“I ended my life not because I was afraid of punishment but because I couldn’t bear to live another day without him. Please don’t make life difficult for my family, they lost a son and a daughter. The greatest girl in the world. Gabby I’m sorry,” he continued. “I have committed suicide by this river in the hope that animals can tear me apart. So that it can make some of his family happy. Please pick up all my stuff. Gabby hates people who litter.”
