Brit smashed herself with hammer to sell phony claims about sex trafficking for years, new film reveals

A shameless British woman spent years claiming she was gang-raped and trafficked by “Asian hairdressers,” smashing her head in with a hammer to sell tricks, a new documentary reveals.

Eleanor Williams, 23, struggled to defend false claims that she was repeatedly sold for sex since the age of 12, filing complaints with the police until the hoax was finally exposed and landed her in jail, according to a new BBC documentary .

“Liar: The Fake Grooming Scandal” offers never-before-seen footage of Williams’ years of deception, which rocked the UK and put innocent men in danger.

“It’s hard to understand why someone would go to that extent and what their motivation is, other than a desperation to be believed,” Cumbria Detective Constable John Robinson said in the documentary.

Williams, who was sentenced to more than eight years in prison in March after being convicted of nine counts of perverting the course of justice, went viral after posting her claims on Facebook that she was beaten, raped and “groomed” by Asian thugs.

She first claimed she was raped and trafficked when she was just 16, according to reports.

In one police photo, Williams’ face was badly beaten, with his right eye badly bruised and completely swollen shut, although he appeared to be smiling in the photo.

She made repeated claims over the next three years – including calling police to her apartment in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria in July 2019 claiming she had been beaten and raped again.

Footage broadcast by BBC3 showed Williams looking distraught with blood dripping from his mouth as police tried to work out what happened — at one point calling police and whispering, “Help.”

That’s all an act, according to the authorities.

Police later revealed the truth, and said just 20 minutes before she called police she was seen on surveillance footage walking home seemingly unharmed.

In March, Williams apologized before being sentenced to prison, The Guardian reported.

“I understand that it’s your job to trust the jury’s decision and that’s OK,” he wrote in a letter to the judge, according to the outlet. “I know I made some mistakes, I’m sorry. I know that’s no excuse but I was young and confused.

“I’m not saying I’m guilty but I know I’ve done something wrong in some of these things and I’m sorry,” he added. “I am very disappointed with the problems that happened in Barrow. If I had known what consequences would come from that status, I would not have posted it.”

Williams’ lies had serious consequences, with one of the men he falsely accused, business owner Mohammed Ramzan, attempting to kill himself after his arrest.

Another wrongfully accused man – who spent 73 days in jail – had his windows smashed and the word “rapist” sprayed on his home after he named him as his attacker.
