Three British Airways crew who claimed they were robbed in Brazil allegedly enjoyed a night of foul-smelling madness – causing overcrowded flights to be delayed.
The trio were due to fly back to London Heathrow Airport from Rio de Janeiro on September 5, but flight BA248 was abruptly delayed after they claimed they were robbed the night before and were “too traumatized to work,” according to The Sun.
A local police investigation found that the airline employees, aged 40, 39, and 31, “didn’t tell the truth and didn’t tell what really happened that morning.”
Police discovered that staff, who claimed their phones had been taken by thugs in a robbery, actually lost their devices following heavy drinking that night.
They were also accused of taking Class A drugs during their night of partying, before trying to cover their tracks in a desperate bid to avoid trouble from the airline.
“This is a police matter,” a British Airways spokesman told The Post.

“What is surprising is how the crew who have an important role spend the whole night drinking and using drugs, knowing that the next day they will have the responsibility of taking care of dozens of people who will travel for hours,” Patricia Alemany, Chief of Support Police Special Tourism, told local newspaper Globo.
Immediately after reporting the fake robbery, the trio allegedly sent a taxi to an abandoned gas station in Vaz Lobo, north of Rio.
Officials are considering charging staff for “falsely reporting a crime.”

“They made up this story to try to justify behavior that may be inappropriate outside of company rules,” assistant police chief Danielle Bullus told the outlet. “But we discovered that there was a theft of a mobile phone from a couple who were in Vaz Lobo.”
Police believe that one staff member in particular drank “to the point of passing out.”

After nearby construction workers recovered him and called for medical help, the staff allegedly “showed a pin of white powder – police believed it was cocaine.”
Once he was taken to the hospital, the man reportedly admitted to taking drugs and drinking with two local women.
The ordeal came when a married British Airways pilot sniffed coke from a topless woman’s chest while partying hard in South Africa before he tried to board a crowded flight to London, according to a report.
Mike Beaton has the night off for “down time” in Johannesburg before he is scheduled to co-pilot a return flight to London in September, The Sun reports.
He spent the night on booze, drugs and women, he boasted in a text message sent to a fellow flight attendant.
