Popular UK morning news anchor Holly Willoughby quit her old television role days after a maniac was arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap and kill her.
Willoughby, who co-hosted ITV’s “This Morning” for 14 years, announced Tuesday she would not be returning to the program following a “difficult decision” in the interests of her husband and three children.
“To everyone who has worked on the show over the years, thank you so much,” Willoughby said in a statement. “This is a difficult parting, you are amazing and I will forever be proud of what we have done together. Thanks to everyone at ITV for their support. To every guest who has sat on our couch, thank you.”
“Most importantly, thanks to the great audience. You are so loyal, so supportive and the best company every day.
“Richard (Madeley) and Judy (Finnigan) said ‘We’re just looking after this show, it will always belong to the audience. It is an honor to be a part of his story and I know it has many more chapters. Unfortunately, however, I now feel like I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss you all very much.”
Willoughby has not appeared on television since he was thrown out shortly before broadcast last Thursday when the Metropolitan police arrested Gavin Plumb, 36, in connection with the terrifying plot.
Plumb, a mall security officer, was charged with soliciting a man to kill and inciting a kidnapping.
According to The Guardian, Plumb is accused of conspiring with another man, identified as David Nelson, from the US to try and commit the murder.

The plot was foiled a week before Nelson was scheduled to arrive in the UK, the outlet added.
Willoughby was placed under police protection last Friday as the motive for the alleged kidnapping and murder plot was unclear.
Police found chloroform, cable ties, blindfolds and ropes when they raided Plumb’s home in Essex, according to The Sun.
Holly Willoughby’s announcement of her departure follows news of her alleged kidnapping plot. Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock Holly Willoughby has been praised by ITV, the commercial broadcaster, saying they can’t wait to work with her again.
Kevin Lygo, ITV’s managing director of media and entertainment, hinted that Willoughby would still be involved with the network.
“Holly has brought her unique brand of warmth, energy, humor and fun to one of the country’s most popular daytime shows, and she will be sorely missed by everyone on the programme,” Lygo said in a statement to Sky News. “He remains a much-loved member of the ITV family and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the future.
Meanwhile, Plumb is scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court, located 40 miles outside London, for a plea hearing on November 3.
