There are some songs that just put an artist on the map, and for Britney Spears, that hit was arguably “…Baby One More Time.”
The hit song, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is hardly a pop star. Several artists, including one very popular boy band, actually rejected the iconic song in the first place!
‘Baby One More Time’ Almost Didn’t Go To Britney Spears Live!
There are a few songs that are recognizable as “…Baby One More Time” but the song is hardly a Princess of Pop at all! Swedish music producer Max Martin is making a name for himself while Britney is just getting started on the pop scene.
He had worked with the Backstreet Boys on “Quit Playing Games” and Robyn on “Show Me Love” but both the ’90s boy band and TLC turned down the “…Baby One More” time, according to TMZ.
Britney signed her first music contract when she was just fifteen, and at sixteen, she was flown to Sweden to work with Max Martin on his debut album. He played her a demo of himself singing the song, and she recalls that she was instantly hooked.
During that trip to Stockholm, Britney ended up recording a total of seven songs, including “…Baby One More Time” for her debut album.

The song was a resounding success, rising to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In fact, it also earned Britney her first Grammy nomination. Although he didn’t win that one, he went on to win more.
The song was listed on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list and has been covered numerous times by artists. It ranks right up there with some of Britney’s other commercial successes, including “Oops!… I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Stronger,” “Toxic” and “Piece of Me.”
