Pop star Britney Spears may have gotten an apology from Timbaland, but it turns out, it’s all thanks to Missy Elliot.
On Tuesday, a clip appeared online, in which the music producer said that Justin Timberlake should have “thrown the muzzle” on the “crazy” Britney Spears. Although Timbaland apologized, many fans slammed his words as a “second insult.” However, they have praise for Missy Elliot, who appears to be the one who prompted Timbaland to apologize for his remarks in the first place.

Following the release of her memoir, “The Woman In Me,” on October 24, 2023, Timbaland suggested the “Cry Me A River” singer should “put a muzzle” on the pop star to stop her from thinking about the alleged infidelity and unplanned pregnancy.
In the clip, Timbaland calls Britney “crazy” before he goes on to say, “I wanna call JT and say ‘Man! You should put a muzzle on that girl.'”

In a snippet of his TikTok Live broadcast to X, formerly known as Twitter, Timbaland apologized but it didn’t sound like an apology. Timbaland said, “I apologize to all of Britney’s fans, even to her. If he never saw… I’m sorry because the muzzle is… no. You have a voice and you speak what you want to speak. Who am I to tell you when not to speak and I was wrong to say it but I hope you look at it from… I look at it from a different lens.”
He concluded, “I’m sorry to Britney’s fans and her and yeah, you know, about respecting women, h— yeah.” Elsewhere in the video, however, he revealed that it was actually Missy Elliot who pushed him to apologize, prompting support from Britney’s fans.

In a short post shared to the Britney Spears sub-Reddit, one user started the conversation, writing, “Missy Elliott apparently texted Timbaland and said she doesn’t support what he said and that she owes Britney an apology.”
“He went live on Instagram last night to issue an ‘apology’ and said he did this because Missy texted him. Good on Missy, but she could have gone with an apology half the time. He never directly apologized to Britney all that time,” commented a netizen.
