Pop star Britney Spears mentions Madonna several times in her memoir, “The Woman In Me.”
The Queen of Pop has supported the Princess of Pop throughout her divorce from actor Sam Asghari, which is why fans were happy to see her not only praise Madonna, but also open up about their viral kiss at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

Looking back on her childhood, Britney said that she always dreamed of becoming a big star like Madonna. “I’m a little girl with big dreams. I want to be a star like Madonna, Dolly Parton, or Whitney Houston,” he wrote.
A few chapters later, while recounting the highlights of his career, he says, “I started meeting Madonna all over the world. I would perform in Germany and Italy, and we would end up performing at the same European award show. We would greet each other as a friend.”
Chapter 16 is where Britney really starts to open up about her relationship with the “Like A Virgin” singer. “If I could go back now, I would try to be my own parent, my own partner, my own advocate – like I know Madonna did,” Britney wrote. “She has experienced sexism and bullying from the public and the industry, and has been shamed many times for her sexuality, but she has always overcome it.”
Britney agreed with Madonna “that the music industry – really the whole world – is geared more towards men” before she went on to recall their viral 2003 VMA kiss.

In her memoir, Britney explains how the viral 2003 MTV VMAs kiss actually happened. “We decided to perform together at the VMAs. Every time we practice, we do air kisses,” he wrote. “About two minutes before the show, I was sitting on the side of the stage thinking about my biggest performance to date at the VMAs, when I took off the suit to reveal a glittery dress.”
“I thought to myself, ‘I want a moment like that again this year. With that kiss, do I have to do it?'” Britney later said, “A lot is made of that kiss. Oprah asked Madonna about it. The kiss was considered a huge cultural moment – ’Britney kisses Madonna!’ – and it struck a chord with both of us.”
Britney explained how that moment led to their “Me Against the Music” collaboration. Instead of going through her team, Britney asked him directly. “I told him how much fun it was to make the song with me and how I thought we could help each other: it was something that would benefit both of us. He agreed,” Britney wrote.

He described the hit single as “still one of my favorite songs, and the collaboration with him is part of what makes it so memorable.”
“When we were filming together, I was amazed at how Madonna wouldn’t compromise her vision,” he says, reflecting on their music video. “He stays focused on it. Following Madonna’s ideas and being on time for a few days is what it means to work with her.”
“It was an important lesson for me, one that will take me a long time to absorb: he demands power, then he gets power. She’s the center of attention because she makes it appear everywhere,” Britney wrote. “He made that life for himself. I hope I can find a way to do that while maintaining the part of my good girl identity that I want to keep.”
Britney ‘Reportedly ‘Grateful’ For Madonna’s Support Amidst Divorce

Although she didn’t mention it in her memoir, Britney recreated the 2003 MTV VMAs kiss during her June 2022 wedding before the actress filed for divorce. The “Material Girl” singer has been monitoring Britney in the midst of her divorce and reportedly wants to have the “Toxic” singer on stage with her during her Festival tour.
“He felt it was time for Britney to be shown love, guidance and support, instead of being manipulated or taken advantage of,” a source told Radar Online. “She likes him coming to visit.”
It remains to be seen if Britney will actually join Madonna on stage when her Festival tour hits Los Angeles, but an insider told the outlet that “it means the world that one of her all-time idols loves her.”

On Aug. 30, a source told Us Weekly that the “Gimme More” singer was “grateful” for Madonna’s support and echoed news that Madonna wanted Britney to perform on stage for her Festival tour.
“Britney is grateful for the support she’s had from her friends in the business – especially Madonna,” another source said. “He wants to be in it, but the question is whether or not he can handle that kind of pressure and attention.”
