Pop star Britney Spears opens up about what it’s like to see herself featured in various documentaries in her new memoir, “The Woman In Me.”
Some of the documentaries don’t feature Britney herself, but they depict her famous friends speaking for and about her. In her book, the now 41-year-old pop star described feeling “hurt” by her “old friend” for talking to the media about her life.

In an excerpt from “The Woman In Me” published by The New York Times on Thursday, Britney lamented how many documentaries have been made about her life. “It feels like every day there’s another documentary about me on another streaming service,” she wrote in her memoir.
“Seeing a documentary about me was rough. I understand that everyone’s heart is in the right place, but I am hurt that some old friends are talking to filmmakers without consulting me first,” he continued. “There’s a lot of guessing about what I’m thinking or feeling.”
The March 2021 New York Times Presents documentary “Framing Britney Spears” explores her 13-year conservatorship and intense legal battle with her father, Jamie Spears. While the special reignited the #FreeBritney movement, Britney called out the documentary in the caption of a lengthy Instagram post.

“My life has always been a lot of speculation … watched … and judged really all my life !! For my sanity, I have to dance [Steven Tyler] every night of my life feels wild and human and alive,” she wrote at the time, according to Us Weekly.
“I have been exposed all my life performing in front of people!!! It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your true vulnerability because I was constantly judged … humiliated … and shamed by the media … and I still am to this day!!!” he continued. “As the world continues to spin and life continues, we still remain fragile and sensitive as humans!!”
Britney went on to admit that she had not watched the documentary but was “embarrassed” by what she had heard about it in the media. “I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I saw, I was embarrassed by the light they gave me … I cried for two weeks and well …. I still cry sometimes,” she confessed. “I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and maintain my own joy … love … and happiness!!! Every day dancing brings me joy!!! I’m not here to be perfect … perfect is boring … I’m here to deliver goodness!!!!”

Days after her Instagram post, a source told Us Weekly that the “Toxic” singer was “embarrassed” by the documentary because her “kids are at an age where they can access it,” referring to Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17. .
“It turned into a nightmare for her because she couldn’t imagine what her children would be thinking now, and it definitely triggered some emotions from her past. He’s a major pop star, but he’s still a very sensitive human being and, unfortunately, is really affected by what people think of him. He is not negligent with what is available [said] about him in the news and within days he reached breaking point,” added the source.

On Friday afternoon, Britney took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram, to share her “motives” for writing her new memoir. He began, “The purpose of my book is not to offend anyone in any way !!! That was me then … that was the past !!! I don’t like the headlines I read …that’s why I quit the business 4 years ago !!! Most of the books are from 20 years ago… I’ve moved and it’s a pretty clean slate from here!!! 1 am here to set it like that for the rest of my life!!!”
He continued, “Anyway, that was the last one and s— happened !! This is actually a book that didn’t know to write … although some may be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!! Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!! Again, my motive for this book is not to quote my past experiences that the press did and it was stupid and stupid !!! I have since moved on!! #TheWomaninMe.”
Britney Spears’ memoir “The Woman In Me” is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
