Britney Spears, will.i.am Under Fire For ‘Old’ ‘Mind Your Business’ Promo

Singer Britney Spears has teamed up with rapper will.i.am for another collaboration after the success of “Scream & Shout,” but it seems not all fans are happy about it.

Or rather, they were not happy with the promotional image used to market the new song. The promotional image used for Britney was taken in 2003. Not only is the image twenty years old, but it was also taken ten years before their first hit song.

On Monday night, the Black Eyed Peas frontman took to Twitter to tease the release of the new song with a teaser clip that begins with lyrics from their hit song “Scream and Shout.”

Will.i.am’s voice began with the line, “You now, now rocking with / Will.I.Am and…,” before he added “Britney, b*tch.”

In this new version, Britney added, “Mind your business, b*tch!”

Many fans are hoping the song will drop on Tuesday, given the mention of “tomorrow” at the end of the clip. “Britney” and “Britney Is Coming” began trending throughout the day on Tuesday, but the song did not appear.

Instead, at 6pm ET, will.i.am posted a teaser for the new song, revealing that it’s coming on Friday.

“July 21st is the date… I’m so excited for this release…” he tweeted. “I think it’s the first one out again… I can’t wait for FRIDAY…”

He also added cover art to his website that looks like it’s the official cover art of the new song. However, fans were not happy to see that the photo was taken in 2003.

Fans Question Why Twenty-Year-Old Britney Photos Are Used!

Pop Crave was among the first to give fans a clear side-by-side look at the cover art taken from will.i.am’s website and a photo taken by Mark Liddell in 2003. In the caption, they wrote, “Britney Spears 2003 photo , shot by Mark Liddell, has been used in promotional images for his new collaboration with will.i.am, ‘Mind Your Business.’”

Unfortunately, it is not clear to anyone why they decided to use this photo of Britney, or if there is any significance behind it. One user joked, “I was going to ask why he didn’t use the current picture but he said we should mind our own business.” While some got the joke, another user responded, “But in the duet with Elton John, he said, ‘Hold Me Closer.’ Which one, Britney?”

“I can’t believe they photoshopped his old head into something for the cover,” wrote another user. “I think she is still beautiful; he’s getting older and going through a lot during his C-Ship but of course they go with what’s marketable,” said another fan.

“I think he doesn’t really care about promotion. He has his own reasons why,” another fan chimed in, before adding, “I mean, I just feel like he’s been through so much and people keep talking shit. I’m sure there are things we don’t know.”

“When she has people controlling her for years, why she feels comfortable being in the light or promoting, it probably gives her anxiety. People treat celebrities like shit,” they continued. “Someone like Britney doesn’t deserve to be talked about so much. She doesn’t talk bad about anyone! Before all this happened people treated him like trash. I will always stand up for him.”

While it’s not clear why Britney’s old image was used in the cover art, we’re glad to see Britney has fans who support her!

“Mind Your Business” will be released on Friday, July 21st, although what time it will be released is anyone’s guess!
