“The Rink” star Chita Rivera has died.
The actress’ death was announced by her daughter, Lisa Mordente, on Tuesday, January 30. Rivera reportedly had a brief illness before passing away at the age of 91.

Rivera, the Broadway icon who rose to fame in 1953 with Guys and Dolls, has died aged 91.
The Broadway icon’s daughter, Lisa Mordente, announced the news to the family. According to reports, Rivera died peacefully in his sleep after a brief, undisclosed illness.
Rivera is survived by a daughter and siblings Julio, Armando, and Lola del Rivero. His sister Carmen preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements have not yet been disclosed by the family.
Rivera left behind a legacy filled with numerous awards, including 10 Tony awards, one of which was for Best Actress in a Musical for her role in “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” He later earned a lifetime Tony award in 2018, one of a select few to receive the prestigious award.
Throughout his life, Rivera was recognized as a “triple-threat” performer, showcasing his singing, acting and dancing talents, especially in classic musicals such as “West Side Story.” His extensive credits include such works as “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Jerry’s Girls,” “Seventh Heaven,” and, more recently, the 2015 Broadway production of “The Visit.”
Chita Rivera Tested Positive For COVID-19 Last Year

Back in September, the Broadway star was expected to appear at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts to discuss her book, “Chita” A Memoir.” The book debuted in April of that year and was co-written by arts journalist Partick Pacheco, who is also expected to appeared.
Rivera is also scheduled to share insights into her Broadway career, accompanied by an exhibit of memorabilia from her theater journey, all curated by the Library for the Performing Arts. Unfortunately, his plans were interrupted when he tested positive for COVID-19, causing the cancellation of the scheduled tour.
“Unfortunately, Chita Rivera has tested positive for COVID, and will not be able to attend our panel discussion on Monday, September 18,” the library announced on their website at the time, per Parade.
Following news of his death, tributes have poured in for Rivera, honoring his Broadway legacy.
